Something monumental occurred yesterday, I went to use my SEE to do actual work and all the major systems worked. Previously I had done work around the yard but yesterday I took it on the road about 15 miles away for some serious work. This is the first time I have taken it on the road to any...
That T on the return line gets smacked by the engine cover removal as its real close. I remember working on the piping on that area but cant remember what the heck I did.
Another potential fuel system issue is that the breather cap on the tank could be plugged with paint. Mine was. I ended up...
My two cents on the fuel issue. After you have checked/replaced the primary fuel filters, hook up a gravity fuel tank onto the inlet of the fuel pump. I used an outboard motor boat tank with a primer bulb and hooked it to the outlet hose of the strainer located down on the frame. I set the tank...
I rarely plan to ever use the loader for 10 hours straight. The SEE sits a lot and my goal is to give it good greasing prior to use to drive any moisture and junk out of the joints. I expect a lot of these SEEs didn't get much actual use of the loader and the backhoe so we are pretty well...
Good Luck, when I tried to unscrew the top air line it is stuck to the fitting so the air line twists with the fitting. Obviously that's going to stress the line to fully unscrew the fitting. I believe I have seen an air line repair kit somewhere but would prefer not fixing it. I would suggest...
I expect a lot of these SEEs that have been sitting for years in a storage lot are in need of good greasing in general. The lubrication instructions manual is actually worth printing out. I would have never found the hidden zerk on the rear prop shaft without the picture. I think I have found...
Another off the wall observation, this time the spare tire. I was filing my tires getting ready for a road trip this weekend and decided to check the air pressure in my spare. The valve stem was not accessible from the side of the truck behind the cab as the mounting bracket blocked it. I...
I have been spending some time locating all the grease points. There is reminder in the PS articles about the two grease points that tend to be forgotten under the center of the truck. They put grease to the sealed front ad rear prop shaft joints. One is fairly obvious but the other one took...
Mercedes Benz allegedly had to guarantee the military 50 years parts availability when they bid on the SEE contract. No where did it say how much the parts were going to cost. Many of the common parts seem to be available in Europe but due to low demand the US branches of the firms don't list...
The issue with SEE muffler is that its a weird configuration. Most mufflers have inlets and outlets on either end of the muffler. On SEE the header dumps into side of the muffler (the steep side of the oval) and then exits out the top side of the muffler (the flat side of the oval with a 45...
On completely different note, Anyone locate a source for a SEE muffler?. I have crack in the vertical piping heading up to the spark suppressor but getting at it may require trashing the muffler.
Worse case is maybe this is an excuse to buy a Tig Rig and fab one up ;)
I used the air tool oil. But as I stated, I cannot get the air line off so not sure how well its flushed.
My PTO lever likes to pop out on occasion. I have a piece of firewood that I push up against it when engaged so it doesn't pop out.
I have mixed luck getting the boom lock engaged...
I don't have a picture of the air locker drain but here is snap shot of the TM page. Its #6 and is directly below the air line connection #3 on the bottom side of the tube. The drain plug was painted over. I had to scrape off the paint to get a wrench on it.
If I remember correctly the other...
A FYI on the air lockers. There is routine maintenance required on the air lockers that may not be described in the TMs (At least I haven't found it). Gunk can build up in the cylinder bores inside the axles which can case the air lockers to stop moving. There are drain plugs on the bottom of...
FYI, there is a specific PS Magazine article warning about cooking the alternator by improper shutdown. Proper technique, close the throttle, then the key on the dash and then the master disconnect.
The PS Magazine extract is about 50 cartoons, print it out and its great bathroom reading ;)
The extracted articles from PS magazine that applies to SEEs and HMMHs (not many HMMH specific) have been uploaded to the TM upload folder. Lots of stuff of interest including various recommended alterations to the equipment to improve reliability. Heck it was worth it just to find the recommend...
FYI, I have extracted and indexed every references to the SEE and HMMH from the PS Magazines. They are in the TM upload folder for now. These are the monthly comic book style PM magazines issued by the military. Not much HMMH specific but lots of SEE stuff including several recommended upgrades...
