Ive noticed this different brown, too. I originally thought it was just faded CARC brown but it seems like it matches others with the same off brown. I want to keep mine as original as possible but i dont like the mismatch to the correct brown on the canvas.
Can you tell us more about this experience?
Did it work for you? or a friend of a friend?
The sticker on my M998 has been removed. I'm Trying to find the path of least official resistance in Maricopa county(required)...fight for recognition of the exemption, or just passing the test. My 86...
This is basically what I want to do too.
Search "HMMWV half doors" on Ebay.
Last night I saw a guy that has a bunch of "real"? hard half doors for sale.

I had the vacuum pump leak like CUCVRUS mentioned and it dripped down the passenger side of the bell...
That clear coat is a good idea.
Mine was missing the door panels altogether. I found a set of blue ones and painted them with Rustoleum Satin Dark Brown. Seemed like a perfect match.
Did the dash as well.
If you can still find a set of these yokohama Geolandar MTs, they are great tires. Quiet. Cheap. Great traction. Have a similar look to the Michelin XL military tires
My M1009 has a decidedly oversized filler neck and cap. I am under the impression that they were CUCV specific. You may have a civilian filler/tank/bed retrofit?
I think everyone likes the cool big filler...but where the OP is located, fuel theft is a big problem. I'm sure the fuel thieves love the big unrestricted filler too.
Eh...that's a pretty conservative range of temps. You are definitely correct in that you wont' damage anything if you can maintain those.
trans temps same as engine temp...~195*...is pretty average. The "perfesser" of transmissions at GM Tech Institute (1987) told us that the seals and O-rings...
