All,
I took a few videos of my truck starting cold in 40-degree weather (low and high idle) and idling while warm. I want to know if the idle sounds normal or if there is some type of metal on metal clanking/clacking/slapping happening that is NOT normal.
I took some footage under the hood...
Truck1, PM Sent.
This is what I love about a large support group! Someone always has what you are looking for, often in a forgotten pile in the corner of the garage!
Does anyone know where to find a replacement speedometer drive gear? I'm looking for the one that is part of the main shaft assembly in the transfer case. My truck is stock and I can see a yellow drive gear through the hole once the driven gear is removed. The teeth of the drive gear are all...
All,
Is it recommended to replace the 6.2L head gasket with a 6.5L version? I'm also trying to identify if the heads have been machined in the past and I need to purchase the larger .010+ gasket (in the 6.2L flavor if I go that route). Any guidance on the gasket selection will be helpful...
Found it. It's a blown head gasket on the rear-left side of the engine. I took a video of it for all to enjoy. Since I've been driving the truck around like this for a thousand miles now, what are the chances that I'm going to have to get the heads reground? Any advice on how to change the...
I did a simple test today. I pulled all the leads off of the glow plugs and turned the truck on. The wait light stayed on for about 25 secs, and the relay finally opened back up after about 65-70 secs. I didn't want to actually subject the plugs to this.... 70 secs seems a long time for a...
Ok. I checked the voltages. I have 12.7 on the battery side. When I close the relay, I have 10.7 on the GP side. I checked each glow plug wire and got 10.7 on each one. I also completely removed the relay and cleaned it and all the ring terminals that were on it. Once everything was shiny...
Sorry for the confusion. Let me write it a bit differently:
When I rock the key on, I hear the glow plug relay go "clunk" as it engages. My gauge in the truck goes from 12v to about 10v, normal in my truck when the plugs are warming.
After about five seconds the "wait" light goes out, but I...
All,
I just replaced all my glow plugs with 60G's and put my put the controller card back in. I used to hear the relay click on and off after 5 - 10 secs on the old wellman plugs, but now the relay closes as I turn the key on, the wait light comes on for a few secs, goes off, but the relay...
Thanks for the info. I will take a look this week at those trouble spots. I did replace the power steering pump after I bought the truck, so I'll check those bolts.
I don't have a shifting problem, but I'll check the vac pump like you suggested.
I hear the sound in park, at any RPM. Usually it doesn't start becoming audible until the engine has warmed up a bit. So if I start the engine and just let it idle, it will take 5-10 mins before it starts. But...
Still chirping...
1000 miles later. I'm still driving with the birdhouse under the truck. I took a video in which you can clearly hear the sound. It gets really clear about a minute into it.
Update - It now makes this chirp under any circumstance... any gear, moving, etc...
The only quirk...
Like always, you gents are the best.
I kept looking to put the retaining clip on the top of the cup. Just like Tankie88 said, when you seat the U-joint completely flush, the grooves are visible beneath the ears of the drive shaft, very close to the body of the u-joint. I was looking at it all...
Hey guys,
I just found the rear-axle u-joint to be broken. It is the one at the rear end of the shaft, where it meets the differential.
I looked up the replacement part number, 7806140, from the repair manual. I got the replacement one from Advance Auto for about $12.00.
After melting the...
From what I've been reading, you have to take part of the transfer case apart to get to the internal gear. I believe that you have to drop the rear drive shaft, and remove the little cone that is bolted to the main body of the case. You will see what I'm talking about if you look. This should...
Funny story:
We were driving back to Temecula, CA (Socal) from Las Vegas and we got into some bumper to bumper traffic on the interstate. We were in CA where texting and talking on a cell phone while driving is illegal. A guy in a large, lifted, F-150 was yapping away on his cellphone...
I confirmed that on my truck, the return line to the transmission was the top metal tube from the radiator.
Using a brass T-block w/ 3/8" barbs, I fashioned a temp gauge on the bottom line on the radiator (OUT from Transmission, IN to the radiator). I also cut into the OUT top line on the...
