The best rally on Earth is fast approaching: http://www.steelsoldiers.com/showthread.php?126876-Official-2014-SS-Georgia-Rally-Info-SSGR14-thread
It depends-do you care about the block being "correct" down to the dates codes and/or the GPW or Willys markings?
If all you care about is having the correct style engine, then it'll be easy. I think just watching craigslist, eBay, SS, G503, etc. will net you one within a few months.
If you...
I'd definitely put it back "right". I understand your sentiment about plenty of vehicles having been modified but WWII Jeeps are iconic and pretty valuable as correctly restored units. A WWII Jeep can be a good investment to hold on to and if times ever get rough, their sale can certainly...
Well, you're about to get it.
I am really excited about this year folks: I think this is the year that we take everything we've learned and put it together and create an event that no one can top.
No rally, whether put on by SS or the MVPA or anybody else, has grown like this one. No rally...
I really like the M38A1-I think it's the best military Jeep there is-bar none. It's fast, comfortable and reasonably priced. Parts are common as well.
Would really like to have another. Should never have sold our first one. aua
After you've driven it, you'll know what works (i.e. gauges, lights, broken glass, etc.
After that, a good maintenance program with the following actions (but not limited to) will get you on your way.
Oil change with new oil filters
Fuel filter change
Remove drum/hubs and inspect brake shoes...
Also, with almost anything you find on the truck, a quick google search will yield a lot of info.
For instance, the MWO # on the tag above comes back with the following gems:

If a vehicle has really had a full blown "rebuild"* there will be a tag something like this on it somewhere:
*There are a lot of people who either erroneously believe or have an ulterior motive to proclaim; that their trucks have been "depot" rebuilt and a lot of times with nothing more to...
I am glad you brought this up because it means I should have made this more clear:
So when ya'll see all the pics of the trailrides, naturally the pictures that get posted the most are of the most extreme stuff-because it's cool to see giant 6x6's doing stuff you expect little Wranglers to be...
I agree with this and I'd also like to add:
By the time we get these engines and add better filters to them, they've already lived 90% of their wear. So this is sort of like waxing your 10 year old car 6 months before the clear coat starts peeling.
Don't get me wrong-I have a set of spin-on's...
Here we go: http://www.steelsoldiers.com/showthread.php?7123-SS-cookout-trailride-pics!!!
Let me tell you, that's an old thread and took a bit of cleverness to find!
Everybody, when you look at our rally and you realize that 109 powered vehicles makes it one of the biggest in the Country...
Durhamtown has some pictures on their site, but I find their site .................... difficult to navigate. You can look at the past years multimedia threads for the rally, there are a lot of pics posted of the various trails.
Here are some pictures we took on trips we took a couple years...
