M1008 cracked head gaskets, runs fine, fix? Or engine swap?

Hello and welcome to SS! Nice ride! My advice is... Ready? 1. Do not add stop leak into your coolant! It may stop the leak but it will also clog all the coolant passages and coolant holes on your head gasket and radiator causing overheating. I know because I have done this and seen the...

    85 m1009 swap to 6.5L TD

10-4! I am thinking if you would have bought that motor, your rig would be sitting a long time because of all the modifications you would have to do to make it work. The 6.2 is still a great motor! There are ways to make it bomb proof just as good if not better then a Optimizer. But at that...

    problem with my cucv

Having the correct injection pump and correct injectors is crucial for a properly working motor. Injector pop pressures must match the injection pump. Your old ip DB2829-4267 14077179 1984-85 CUCV (Military), HD C/K, D Truck C/K DB2829-4520 Note 2 except (d) Your new ip DB2829-4521 23500414...

    problem with my cucv

Where did you get the ip and injectors from? If your old IP and injectors worked just fine, I would put them back on and get a refund on the ones you just got.

    6.2 engine question

Sounds great to me! Any slapping noise could be your V belt being loose and slapping on your upper radiator hose shield. Open hood and check for play in the belts.

    problem with my cucv

Why did you change everything? How was it running before you changed everything? Can you install a clear fuel hose between Injection pump and return line to check for air in the lines? Did you replace the lift pump? Try to advance the timing in the injection pump by turning it toward driver...

    Cold Weather and CUCV's

I use 1 or the other. Either 1/2 tank blend with diesel #1 or I add Howes. Howes has always worked for me if instructions are followed. Howes is cheaper the diesel#1 and you get more fill ups with a bottle of Howes. I use it personally and commercially. If I was in Alaska and it was colder...

    Cold Weather and CUCV's

The most effective 4 things that has helped me with cold starts from 10 degrees down to -30 degrees are... 1. 600 watt block heater. 1000 watt block heaters get too hot and eventually burn out quicker. Make sure to run the motor 5 times to get the air pockets out after you install a block...

    84 m1009 cucv chevy blazer build-up

Yep! It can be done! And for extra safety, you can hook the motor puller on the motor while it is on the stand for the test run. Just make sure the radiator is hooked up and coolant flowing.

Because I might test run it while on the motor stand.

When the motor is on the motor stand, you can not install the flex plate because the stand is in the way.

    84 m1009 cucv chevy blazer build-up

Getting the motor on the motor stand just right with the perfect size grade 8 nuts and bolts so the flex plate does not hit anything can be a PITA! Here’s a few more pictures with the Optimizer on the motor stand and some casting numbers. I put plastic over the motor until I get more time to...

    84 m1009 cucv chevy blazer build-up

Next I took the protective canvas and plastic off the Optimizer that is in the back of my truck and pulled it out with my Motor Puller. I did a quick inspection and so far so good. A little trick I learned to get the heavy motor and Motor Puller to move where I want it to and move over ledges...

    84 m1009 cucv chevy blazer build-up

It finally warmed up enough for me to take the Optimizer out of the back of the truck. But before I do, I need to get the flex plate inspected and cleaned. I took 2 flex plates to the local machine shop and had them cleaned in the jet machine and inspected to check the wobble and for cracks. Of...
