Started stripping paint off the front bumper. Tried a couple different ways but they really didn’t work well. I have a couple Course Roto Strippers, CG-1. They take that old red and white paint off like nobody’s business! Now to find a source of them ‘cause they’re going to wear out before I can...
It took almost two hours to grind off the last two welds of the second frame extension. Next step is to clean all the white and red paint and prep for eventually painting everything OD green. The engine, other than heavy layers of dirt and oil, is a nice Chevy orange. I can’t wait to see it all...
I decided I split the difference. I’ll remove the frame extensions from the front, bring the bumper back and attach it to the original mount holes then use the various fire truck components and build the back of the truck to look like the original. I have an old gasoline powered water pump from...
Nope, don’t have a bed. In 1944, the bed would have been made of wood. The fire truck would have had a flatbed with the water tank and stuff attached. It’s a 50-50 shot on which way to go. The fire truck may be slightly less difficult than because a flat bed is significantly easier than trying...
I finally have the frame in front of the engine free of excess metal. Now I need to make a choice. Do I keep the truck a fire truck or turn it back into cargo truck. Regardless, the ginormous water pump that sits in front of the engine has a broken valve. Additionally, I’ll need to rebuild the...
Both fenders are now removed as is the radiator assembly. Cleaned about 5lbs of oily dirt from around the front engine mount. Currently, I’m cleaning up the front bumper extensions by removing more post war add ones. So far I’ve removed about 100 lbs of scrap metal. Also cleaned up the wiring...
The right fender is removed and after I cut off the last four screws, the left fender will come off as well. Other than dirt and grease, the engine compartment is in surprisingly good condition. You can see all the original green peaking out everywhere.
Howdy y’all! I’m looking for a source for the “cam” type screws used to hold the various internal and external panels, parts, etc. The attached picture chows the style of fastener I’m lookin fer. I’ll need various sizes because some of the bolts on my G506 Fire truck are 75 years old and are...
Thank you for the info! Is it safe to assume that most every gun truck, regardless of size, could be equipped the same way? My War Wagon has:
plywood backed sheet metal for armor, three M23 equiliberator mounts with ammo trays for three .50 M2’s, one ground M60 ditch gun, one M-16A1 personal...
Everything but the rear axle has been pulled for de-paint and repair. Time to start on the front. Pulled the pump, brush guard and started pulling sheet metal. That water pump was freakin’ heavy!

First, the pictures. 1st is the antenna mount for the 2nd pic the 524. Above the 524 is the VIC 1 master control, the 1782. The VIC one has 4 stations, 2 forward and two aft. The driver doesn’t get a “talkie” headset, he only listens. His headset is connected to the 524. The 4 stations each...
I’ll go out and take pictures of everything. I have some caps, not sure which ones off the top of my head. Any one in particular you’re looking for? I bought my setup from a vender 10 years +/- a week or two. I’ll list everything that it came with. The real pricey item is the 1780. Without a...
My 1972 American General M35A2 is sort of an ambassador for the Laramie County Wyoming Marine Corps Reserve Toys For Tots program. I use it to lead each years Christmas parade where we collect toys and donations along the parade route. Additionally, it visits various businesses as a banner for...

I have all the components plus spares. I can dig around and give you the list of stuff that goes into the VIC 1. I have a complete VIC 1 installed on my Gun Truck War Wagon.

I’m hazardous around anything that can burn, explode, incinerate or spontaneously combust. In the end, we ran out of oxygen for the oxy fuel so the last three brackets were cut of using a Sawzall. It wrecked the blade but I got all 3 removed.
