    Choosing a Generator

So first things first, with diesel generators it's very important to size them to the load. Having too large of a generator can be just as big of an issue as having too small of one. I will also point out that if you already have a fuel supply you rotate through, buying a generator of that...

    PNW Info Thread!

yeah, I pretty much only remember to check this thread and a couple of forums, so don't always remember what's posted where.

    PNW Info Thread!

Yup, Winlock the 3rd weekend of July, so July 14-18 (Thursday through Monday for anyone that wants to be there that long) Site owner is trying to get an idea of how many people will be there, and not sure how much he watches this thread (though he's over in the HMMWV forum a lot) From the...

What did you do to your trailer today.

on the HMMWV I used a fiberglass panel painted black. Been working great, and I have more of the panels. Or I might just put some wood strips in there. I have a sawmill and acres of trees, so plenty of materials to use.

What did you do to your trailer today.

Okay, did yet another thing to my M1102 trailer. So we all know the aerodynamics on them suck. Next weekend I have a camping trip I'm going on that is over 200 miles each way. Not really a whole lot in the grand scheme of things, but with fuel prices how they are, I decided every little bit...

    Temperature

So looking at other threads, I think you have the M1123, which would need the 12k halfshafts. Replacement shafts are kind of spendy on them, so if all that is wrong is the boot, you're much further ahead replacing the boots and repacking the CVs than replacing them Pretty much everywhere I'm...

    M1151a1 tailgate mystery brackets

    CIP brackets?

    GovPlanet Humvee Question

Those brackets are from the Marine Armor Kit on the M1123s and get ignored when they remove the armor. My truck had them as well.

    Temperature

So to answer question #3 first, yes, that's within the normal range for these trucks. There is no reason to replace the thermostat with a lower one. The fan kicks in and the temp drops, which means the thermostat is open by this point. These have diesel engines that like to run warmer than...

    Horn doesn't work

yup, stock horn just goes "meep meep". It's meant more for letting people walking nearby you are there, not yelling at other cars. I wired a pair of Hella 24V horns into the circuit parallel to the stock horn. https://www.amazon.com/HELLA-940800821-Black-Trumpet-Universal/dp/B01EG18Y8I

Fuel pump issue -- can't get fuel rod back in block

warmer climates can increase growth, but all you really need is water and light for algae to grow in diesel. Going through the tank of fuel at least once per month, you really shouldn't be seeing any issues. It's typically longer term storage, but if the fuel is contaminated then it doesn't...

    Horn doesn't work

Since it's harder to check with the wires hooked up, find the hot wire, make sure that one is plugged into the horn. You should still see 24V on the other horn wire because as pointed out above, the horn button is just a ground. If you have voltage coming out of the horn, try grounding it and...

Starter motor stuck cranking over - Burned up starter motor

my first thought would be check your local area and see if there are any starter rebuild shops nearby. It's usually a lot cheaper to rebuild rather than replace, but not always.

    NorthWest Overland Rally June 16-19

Well, so far the interest I was getting in doing this as a group hasn't gone beyond that point. Nobody has gotten back to me and said they are actually going to go or purchased tickets, so I will likely not take the DRASH gen/ecu and just take the 1102 with what I'll need for just myself...

Conflicting Info - Dextron III / VI for M1165

it's been long enough now that DEX VI is probably safe enough, as it being used in automatic transmissions is one of the few things they haven't had to repair in the 16+ years it's been in widespread use (at least that I've heard of)

Conflicting Info - Dextron III / VI for M1165

Not sure when the military switched over to DEX VI from DEX III, but if it's a 2007 truck, then at some point it should have been serviced. As others have said, DEX VI is supposed to be 100% backwards compatible in automatic transmission applications, so there should be no issues using it no...

    HMMWV FUSE AND RELAYS-LOCATIONS?

This link is to all of the manuals. https://www.steelsoldiers.com/threads/tms-for-the-m998-series-hmmwv.78861/ The main things to remember when looking through the manuals are that the M1123 is an "A2" truck. It's equivalent to an M998A2 with a few modifications that the Marine Corps wanted...

    bouncing fan belts

Yes, bouncing on V-belts is perfectly normal, within reason. If it's bouncing enough that it's coming into contact with other things like radiator hoses, or you can hear squealing from slippage, then it's too loose.
