Work was not performed by AM General to my knowledge. Both Services have various Depots that rebuild various items. In the event of Marine Corps trucks, there are Depots in Albany and Barstow that rebuild stuff for them. With National Guard trucks, it could have been redone at a Depot or at a...
I don't have a clue on MPG's, If she's low, the M1028 gets a tank full. I do keep her under 55 so I should be around 15 or so as I've seen posted. The most I've towed is an M105 and she pulled it as if it wasn't back there but that's only about 3,000 pounds or so.
Mr. McGrogan,
I love how well you articulate your point in your posts and I'll try to do the same in support of what Mr. Emerson is saying. In GA, we don't get a title for the old stuff but with "registration only", it works like this. They send a Sheriff's Deputy out to your house to fill...
I'm speaking for Marine Corps trucks as that's what I have the most experience with. Quite a few M817's were rebuilt around 2002 /2004 while awaiting Oshkosh to field the MK 29/30 MTVR series dump trucks. On those M817's, there's an additional dataplate that reads "IROAN in accordance with SOW...
I'll toss up the latest, if you buy a heater core from Napa, it's made in China. I think better of Napa but they let me down this go around. The leak is fixed and if anyone remembers my Fuel Injector issues, let me say that Seafoam is great. 1 pint, 1/2 a tank and the thing no longer drops a...
I think the air shift transfer case in an M800 series is solid as it. The shift mechanism from forward to reverse is a very simple well thought out design. To see if it works, start truck, build air, shut truck down, move shifter from any forward gear to reverse. You should notice a nice...
I use Shell Rotella T 15/40 for the motor, Prestone Ethylene Glycol (green) for antifreeze, Traveller (Tractor Supply) 40W Non Detergent oil for trans / transfer case, Napa 90W GL-5 oil for axles, DOT 5 Brake fluid (commonly found at a Harley shop) for Master Cylinder. That should about cover it.
Planning on driving it tomorrow. That's all mine needs to keep going. It did tow an MK 14 trailer recently and had no issues. C Turbo was screaming but that's how she likes it.
You just never know sir!!! I'd hate to pay a recovery bill when I can just be prepared ahead of time!!! I keep the towing equipment on the truck but it's not like I don't drive it around alone. For long trips like the GA Rally which is 190 miles from home, I have to convoy just in case.
Likely overkill but I bring a gallon of DOT 5, Motor Oil, Antifreeze, Gear Oil and 40W Non Detergent oil. I bring grease, a grease gun and windshield cleaner. Spare parts include wheel cylinder, master cylinder and plugs to take the place of a busted brake line or wheel cylinder. In a bugout...
If the truck was an M800 series, I'd say hook a towbar to it toss it in 5 high and gently rock it back and forth with another truck. I've seen many NHC 250's stick after sitting for quite some time. You could take it a step further and remove injectors and soak PB Blaster on the tops of the...
You say the Zipper is facing the correct way, can you enlighten us to which way you have the Zipper's pointed? Sometimes you get bad advice on that stuff. I'll tell ya if you have it right or not. I prefer the silicon boots, guess which way the side with the most "ribs" goes. Towards the front.
Safe and Sound. Uncle, fortunately, does not want it back!!! I drove it to work today in celebration and the heater core started leaking but that's an easy enough fix. Thank Goodness it won't be leaving my yard, I don't think my youngest son would adjust to something leaving the "motorpool"...
Guys, what Thunder in NWOR was experiencing on his A3 was due to a bad tire. He swapped the fronts and the pull went to the other side. He replaced with new tires, the pull went away. The A3's have different spring perches to accommodate the super singles with a slightly different caster...
As for precision, I was measuring with a 1/32" graded square ruler and eye balled it. I got the recommended amount ground off with a bench grinder, took about 30 minutes a perch as far as grinding time. Wear Gloves obviously as they get warm doing it this way. I agree, a mill would by far be...
I'm on 11R20's and the speedo is only a little off. Mine loves 48 MPH indicated which is 53 or so ground speed. I like the idea of 395's, they equal 55 for 42 indicated? That sounds like the way to go and if you can post some evidence proving that, 395's are my next procurement project. I've...
My old one looked like your new one, small cap and it was already drilled for the vent line. My new one has the large cap and is drilled for a vent line but has a breather up top. I couldn't get the old vent line fitting out of my old M/C cap but I'll get a fitting for it soon. Here's another...
G,
He doesn't have to ask, I'll post up willingly. Following your instructions in the above referenced posts, I removed the spring perches and ground done the leading edge on a bench grinder. I tried to stay as close to Gringletaubes' drawings as I could. End result, re-installed and now...
