I know this thread is a bit old, but I just ran into almost the same issue on an M35A2, had all power in every light except left side brake light worked, test grounds and power and swapped bulbs, everything worked, except the left brake light. I changed the directional and all is good...
Again I like to thank the help so far, I now see that besides the angle iron I also need the top high side bracket that connects the rack to the mud flap. That one has more of a tricky bend to it!
Should be interesting till I get real ones!
