    Gas powered deuce performance

Sorry I didn't see this thread sooner. There are several Gasser M35 owners on this site. I think we all pretty much have the same driving experience. Accelerate like a 13,000 pound 1950 truck, thunder down the road up to and even over 60 mph, don't say "hill" near the truck or you loose 5-10...

    M725 engine and trans cost/availability

One locked up. 3 running when pulled. I know one of the runners had a rear main seal leak because that is why I pulled it. The other engine was supposed to run when pulled but I never even tried turning the crank. I think there are at least 2 carbs, 2 or 3 fuel pumps and brackets for si...

    M725 engine and trans cost/availability

I do still have them. I also have access to a loader again too. I am not headed to the left coast with a trailer anytime soon though. PM me if you have some ideas.

    Engine shuts off

Try hitting the throttle with it at idle and letting off right away. Just a quick stab and release. It will probably die. Same with holding an rpm around 1500-2000 and letting off in a hurry. Pretty much play with it and you will probably find a way you can repeatedly make it die. Those are...

    Transmission issues

I agree that a different controller and wiring harness is a must. However, a hidden cost here is your year transmission. The early 4L80E years had a different wiring harness plug and such inside the transmission than all the later years. Talk to the shop about that.

    M1031 speedometer woes

Used speedometer swapping was a sport I played for many years. 2 of my 3 daily driven square body trucks now have steady and accurate speedometers. We broke down and bought a new LMC unit for the other one. It has never been steady or accurate. I got to where I would chuck the speedometer...

    Serpentine belt conversion

1988 was the first year for the 6.2 to have a serpentine belt. 1993 and 1994 6.5 trucks had a tach sender as part of the oil pump drive at the rear top of the engine. 1995 and newer used the alternator for the factory tach signal. 1996 is also when they started offering the dual alternator 12...

best way to level 1986 m1009

Check your front spring rear upper shackle hanger bushings. RED had that lean, a sometimes clunking feel in the steering wheel when turning the wheel sitting still like in a parking lot and a sometimes vibration at 65-68 mph. Replacing those really worn bushings solved most of the lean, the...

I was in TX But they let me go.

You have the coolest road side issues Chris. Still in Texas? Put a 2x4 inside the caliper for the piston to push against, duct tape it up out of the way and drive on.

M1007 - CUCV Suburban Clone Build Thread

Rich, I can get my index and middle finger together between the stock cross member and the pan. You want to know how much lower the engine pan is than the transmission? The bottom of the pan is just a hair more than an inch lower than the TH400 flexplate. The GEP pan is shaped just like a...

M1007 - CUCV Suburban Clone Build Thread

We got the rear bumper with all the pintle hook supports, shackle mounts tubes braced and the end brackets for the bumper installed a few days ago. Then it was time to turn the truck around and stab the GEP/4L80E into place. We had a very hard time doing it yesterday and just finished up a...

    Question for the experts

The -20 manual says to "see your supervisor" if the engine will not crank. I guess that is us. However, the very first item listed in the -20 about anything electrical is to make sure the batteries are good and have been load tested. Your question is going to get answered with more questions...

M1007 - CUCV Suburban Clone Build Thread

No I haven't done anything beside dribble some Marvel Mystery Oil down that one cylinder Joe. It has been sitting for a few months now. Once we get it mounted in the truck and the exhaust run, then I will start playing with the fuel and electrical systems. Which will include running the...

M1007 - CUCV Suburban Clone Build Thread

We did get the fuel tank back in along with the skid plate. Hopefully, today I can wire in some plugs for the pair of trailer plugs and get the bumper mounted. I also discovered yesterday that the rain gutters seem to be vehicle specific bolt patterns. The Cowdog is an '87 and it had chrome...

M1007 - CUCV Suburban Clone Build Thread

We should get the fuel tank strapped in this afternoon. I decided to drill a spot for a regular civilian RV type trailer plug next to the MV plug on the bumper. I have always used a pigtail I made from a MV trailer but figured this would be less hassle. I want to make a plug between it and...

M1007 - CUCV Suburban Clone Build Thread

Most of last weekend I spent sanding and painting all the parts for the rear bumper and hitch. They are all back in my class now and just about ready to go on. I also took the camera from the art teacher while she was at lunch a few minutes ago. So, I got pictures!

M1009 No Start. (GearTeeth Grinding?) (Issue after running out of fuel/refilling)

Keep in mind that an electric fuel pump will only pump fuel to the IP. Getting rid of all air up until the IP. The IP has to be turning with the engine to get air out of the actual injection lines. I have found it takes 5-8 times of turning the engine over 10-15 seconds with at least a 30...

How to find the engine markings for a 6.5 l

Actually, the oil pump drive tie down bolt was in the same location for all 6.2 engines and some 6.5 engines. In the middle. The engines meant to have a center mount turbo or to be made to have a center mount turbo have the tie down on the passenger side. I have a GEP 6500 with it on the...

How to find the engine markings for a 6.5 l

You found that number on the rear drivers side deck extension. Look on the same basic spot on the front passenger side. The GEP blocks have nothing. The GM 6.5 blocks say GM and in my case, LD. All 6.2 engines say GM 6.2 L on the front deck extension. I didn't pull my block casting list...

    M1009 towing capacity question

As pointed out above, the hitch limits the M1009 to just a little bitty trailer. The civilian K5 with the J code engine and a proper hitch was rated up to 12,000 total combined load if you had the correct combination of gears, engine and transmission. Subtract the K5 and you are left with...
