Just cut one of those H2 swingaway carriers to build a new rear bumper and tire carrier for a little minivan and my buddy used another one to build a tire carrier for an M1009 (sorry, no pics of that one).
Yeah, did not mean to suggest that you'd just slide something like that into a standard 2" receiver hitch. But it's certainly possible to build something modular like that, but... you know, deuced-up a bit.
There's no 'right' answer. If I only had one winch, and it had to be permanently mounted, would put it up front. But can think of a number of scenarios where a rear-mounted winch might prove useful. Think the BEST solution would probably be one of those Warn winches (posted some info about them...
Junkyards. Another option would be to use suspension-type seats made by companies like Beard, Mastercraft, Corbeau, etc. Search will turn up some good reading on this subject.
Cool idea. Any reason why you didn't tie those strut mounting points into the reinforcing rib on the underside of the hood? Seems like that would make it a lot stronger.
The floors do fold-up on all the ones I looked at. That's on of the main reasons why I decided to build an M109. Well, that and the fact that you can take a deuce a lot more places than a 5-ton.
They don't really claim those are for rollover protection do they? Look more like headache racks. Can see how they might be useful and could protect the occupants in the cab if something were dropped on it, but there's no way something like that would hold-up to any sort of violent rollover-type...
That's exactly what I need. Tried building one by putting a uhaul box on top of an M353 trailer. Waste of time and money. Next attempt is going to be a custom enclosure built to sit on top of an M103A3 trailer. Expect that will turn out much better.
Thinking in terms of creating an escape-pod isn't crazy at all. I've referred to the rollcage I'm planning on building inside the cab of may deuce as a safety-capsule when explaining what I'm trying to accomplish. Only trying to maintain the integrity of the space within the cab, in order to...
