Yeah, the AMMPS are pretty sweet.

21% more fuel efficient and 10% less weight, and they all feature automatic paralleling and synchronization. What's not to like, except maybe the price?
Hmm, sounds like I might need to keep honing then to see if I can get the rest of the pits out... I'll see if I can take some closeup pics of what the cylinder walls looks like.
When I was taking this particular unit apart, I noticed this assembly lube on one of the governor springs...
I picked up some scotch pad scour pads and went to town on the crank and cam. Crank came out nice, but the cam still got some serious pits in it.

Finally had some time work work on the one that wasn't making good compression. Sure enough, the rings were rusted stuck on the pistons.

So I dropped them into some small containers of diesel to soak.

Lol, that was a funny video. I'm surprised that old truck didn't throw a rod or something.
Yeah, I can see the rings being rusted in place. Remember how the bores looked when I first popped the heads

I think I'll just go ahead and pop...
I think the concern is that given the high compression of a diesel engine compared to a gas engine, it could potentially do some serious damage given the volatility of ether compared to slow burning diesel oil.
Hmm, maybe pull the injectors and drop in some penetrating oil as per Tom's suggestion would be the next logical step? I was very surprised that starting fluid did nothing? Maybe I was being overly cautious and should try a slightly later amount (more than a 0.5 second blast)? Or I can try...
Yes, the fuel cutoff solenoid does move to the full open position while cranking. Injectors are indexed to the fuel rack properly. I have the 2 special tools to accomplish this as set the limits. I followed the exact same procedure as the unit I tore down all the way and had the block hot...
So I had some spare cycles to mess with these 802's some more. I buttoned up the one with the blown piston for a later look, and moved on to 802 #4.
This is one of the original 3 that had that really bad rust inside the cylinder walls. I cleaned up the carbon from the pistons and carefully...
So I did a 2nd take on the pistons and realized that one pistons wasn't supposed to be sitting higher than the other. After vacuuming out the carbon deposits and spraying a little PB Blaster, I put a wrench on the crank and found that only cylinder #2 was moving up and down. So I lowered the...
Ok. Thanks for the notice. It got me motivated enough to go pull the head off just now.
So far so good:

But check out pushrod #2:

So once I get the head off, it would seem the culprit was...
Got it load tested today and all went well.

That panel rattle went away after a few minutes of running. It comes from the top cover.

So the *house* will be left "unattended for Months on end", I don't expect the generator to run the whole time. Actually I try to swing by there about once per month to make sure everything is ok. Run the water, flush the toilets, drive the cars around a little, that kind of stuff. Yes, I'm...
Believe me I hear you! He's an unusual fellow. He had plenty of money. When he comes to the states, I pick him up at the airport where he parks his private jet until he departs again, He sends the pilot back home to Denmark (flying commercial) until he's ready to leave again. I provided...
Its brand new. Picked it up this morning in Baltimore fresh off the boat from China.

I picked it up for an acquaintance that is never stateside except for maybe 3 weeks every other year or so. He wanted something to protect the valuables in his house...
Sorry guys, I got sidetracked by a new toy today. :D

The "control box" is quite a bit smaller than on the 80x units :)...
So I got the "parts" 802 all together, new filters, oil and coolant.

Fortunately I used water for the coolant for now and I noticed a water leak at the water pump.

Water was coming out of...
I went through the other 3 control boxes and 2 of them would start the generator and of those, one was making power, the other one was not. The 3rd one would not even crank the engine. The one making power was working 100% though, including the load meter and it was able to hold a 7000 watt...
