It passed the leak test. You can't tell from the photo, but the copper (or brass) washer was actually pretty smooth and nothing is leaking. So I put everything back together, filled with coolant, and it started leaking out the thermostat housing. Drained the coolant down a little and removed...
Well nut finally showed up in the mail today. Here's the new one compared to the old one. Didn't realize that "belly" isn't there by default. Sure made it a lot easier to slip in.

I applied some thread sealant to the threads and then...
Finally got a notification yesterday that the Well Nut shipped from Green Mountain. (didn't realize at the time that's who I ordered from on eBay)
I got everything else that I could done until the fuel tank goes back in. The controller box has been re-attached...
Looks like the piece I need is called a Fuel Tank Well Nut. Part number A3816.
Item 43 in the schematic below.
Found one on eBay for $14.50 with shipping, so I got one on order.
Made pretty good progress today, but had a major setback in the end.
I added the coolant and got the battery cables and batteries installed.

Got the new water pump on:

And this time I managed to get the fan on without snapping off the shaft. :D

Got the front housing, radiator and fuel tank all cleaned up...
Picked up my filters from Napa today.

Everything was going well until I used the impact to tighten the fan bolt... Snapped the threads off the end of the water pump pulley. I only gave it a quick "buzz" but I guess that was too much. I...
Yeah, I've always liked Ford Blue. Got a small utility tractor I fixed up. It only has 400 hours on it still!

Anyway, back to the project at hand. I let the little pipe piece that connects the block to the water pump plate soak in that rust remover...
Alright guys, you convinced me to paint it. :D
Wiped down the block with denatured alcohol and using a mix of masking table, aluminum foil and blankets, to cover up the parts not to be painted.

So if I do paint, I should mask off the flywheel housing, the base, the generator, and all bare surfaces that are going to have gaskets put on them. But what about the black fuel hoses and the governor assembly? Am I ok to paint those parts? And what about the fuel pump and injector pump fuel...
Did you get it from Dean? If so, then yep, that's who I got mine from. I do have one with a hole drilled in the fuel tank. I think between the 5 units I got, I hope to make 4 of them runners.
Did you get a replacement engine?
Yes, in my excitement to get these up and running and reading here about pulling the injectors and dropping some oil on top of the cylinders to let them soak, I removed what I at the time thought were the injectors. What I didn't mention before, was that it was late at night, and I had been...
Hi guys,
So after a LONG break, I finally found some time to work on these again. Sometimes life just takes you on other directions and/or other hobbies take over for a while. In my case it was a bit of both.
Head mounted. When I took it apart, I noticed that on the intake side of the head...
If the exciter stator and rotor, and main generator stator and rotor windings all check out, I agree welding might be an option. Or like you said, maybe I'll stumble across a another bell down the road. The other 802 that I picked up with this ones is showing 7500 hours and the fuel tank was...
Thanks, so I seem to be running normal temp with no load I think.
I was able to fiddle a little with it this past weekend. I popped the end bell cover and was greeted with this:

So the leads leads had all been disconnected and worse...
Thanks guys. Yes, it turned out real nice! A couple pics of the initial framing.

I did floating bamboo flooring and the cabinets are from Ikea. I had enough tile left over from when I did my...
Hey guys, I still plan to get these running. In fact, I picked up the 3rd head from the machine shop last week. I have not had time to work on them lately due to having to finish part of my basement as an "in-law" suite for my mother in law.
I started on 11-22 with this...
I wish it was just someone putting a relay in S14! However, the components all appear to be in the correct positions as seen here.

Overall, the inside of the control box is pretty clean.

Here's the...
Thanks for the advice! I'll check out these recommendations next time I have some time to work on it. When I checked it over before attempting to start it for the first time, I noticed that little 4 conductor harness plug under the control box was disconnected. That's probably a bad sign...
I removed the control box to check the wiring and I'm already seeing a couple of issues that I need to address. The L1 and L3 wires are frayed against the chassis much like I have discovered on the other 3 units I have torn down already. Unlike those 3, the engine on this one turned over real...
