MEP-802A cranks but immediately fails with a low oil pressure fault

Never mind. I got it to run by opening up the pressure switch circuit. So open circuit = pressure and I verified that with my meter. Doesn't make any power and none of the gauges are working except for the battery charging one. Still, getting the engine to at least fire and run is a good 1st...

MEP-802A cranks but immediately fails with a low oil pressure fault

Hi guys, I have a 802A that will crank no problem using the dead crank switch, but when I crank it from the main switch, after like 1 revolution or so, it immediately fails with a low oil pressure warning. Things I have tried so far: Removed the oil pressure sending unit and verified that...

How to hookup MEP-802A and MEP-003A through Asco transfer switch to dual 200A panels

You're showing your age Rusty! Lol I have a collection of 33's somewhere, but not sure where they are now. I missed the whole 8-track days only being in my 40's now and growing up in Scandinavia. I used to have a reel to reel player that used what looked like thick fishing wire for tape as...

How to hookup MEP-802A and MEP-003A through Asco transfer switch to dual 200A panels

Got tired of waiting on the dedicated 24 VDC power supply for the power manager, so I hooked up my bench DC power supply for now and completed connecting the sensor wires except for the Neutral line CT (get issues with the terminals on it) I'll clean up the wiring a little better later...

How to hookup MEP-802A and MEP-003A through Asco transfer switch to dual 200A panels

Yeah, I would need quite a few for the UPS :). Still waiting on my 24 VDC adapter for the Power Manager. I did get the under deck roofing done and the 003 moved into position under it. Aligning and screwing in metal roofing from below is a royal pain! I used the forks on the tractor and made...

    MEP-002A and -003A main breaker

When I load tested mine using 12,500 watts, my meter indicated 130%. If I multiply 12,500 by 0.8, I get 100%, so should I adjust the meter down to 100% with a 12,500 watt resistive load? Should I be seeing 41.6 amps with a 12,500 watt resistive load @ 240 volts? 52 x 0.8 I'll be sure to throw...

    MEP-002A and -003A main breaker

Ok, in light of that, I'll definitely re-test at 12,500 watts and time how long before the breaker trips. If I can run for 1+ hour at 12,500 watts without tripping, I guess that short burst I did at 16,000 watts got the breaker hot enough to where it would no longer handle 12,500 watts.

    MEP-002A and -003A main breaker

Thanks, that makes sense. I'll retest, this time timing things more accurately. So even if the breaker is working as designed, I should not expect to be able to run a load above 10kw for more than say 10-15 minutes? I wish this thing had an oil temp sensor. I feel you're kinda flying blind...

    MEP-002A and -003A main breaker

I have a question about pure resistive loads. This weekend I load tested my 003 using 2 4500W and 2 3500W water heater elements. I started out with 12,500W and ran like that for maybe 5 minutes with no issues. I then added the 2nd 3500W element and the engine barely noticed and I ran the...

MEP-003A just goes click when trying to start - fully charged fresh batteries

Thanks. Yes, I love my John Deere tractors. :D

MEP-003A just goes click when trying to start - fully charged fresh batteries

I just twisted the 4 blacks and the 4 whites together on the generator end and then attached one bundle to L1 and the other to L3 and the selector to 120V/240V 1 phase. Here's what the generator end looks like. After twisting them, I also soldered them together for good measure...

MEP-003A just goes click when trying to start - fully charged fresh batteries

Thanks! JD is a 5085M with a H260 loader. http://www.cstone.net/~dk/5085h260-1.jpg Just went past 500 hours today.

MEP-003A just goes click when trying to start - fully charged fresh batteries

Got a chance to load test this unit and I'm impressed! Here's the tub filling up while the genset is warming up: http://www.cstone.net/~dk/MEP003-11-2-01.JPG Under load with @ 12,500 Watt, you have to look real hard to see any smoke from the exhaust...

MEP-003A just goes click when trying to start - fully charged fresh batteries

Dummy load all done. http://www.cstone.net/~dk/dummyload1.JPG http://www.cstone.net/~dk/dummyload2.JPG http://www.cstone.net/~dk/dummyload3.JPG Can't wait to get a load on the 003! It should be able to handle 4500 + 4500 + 3500 = 12,500 Watt easily, right? Adding the last 3500 Watt...

MEP-003A just goes click when trying to start - fully charged fresh batteries

Got the throttle cable installed and I also straightened out a couple of the panels so that everything fits nicely together and closes and latches properly. Since I had the air cleaner body off to fix the area where the intake tube connects to the manifold, I decided the clean all the flaking...

Picked up 6 MEP-802A gensets and will be documenting making them all runners here

The IP shims finally showed up so that I'll be able to continue re-assembling the first engine. http://www.cstone.net/~dk/MEP802-10-29-01.JPG Also received 4 valve guides for the 3rd head, so I'll drop those off at the machine shop so they can complete rebuilding that head.

MEP-003A just goes click when trying to start - fully charged fresh batteries

I worked on installing the throttle cable tonight and I was wondering what the proper location/routing is for the clip midway between the control handle, and the actual throttle arm. I'm talking about the clip by the red arrow. The way it is now is how it was when I got it. I'm thinking that...

    MEP-003a won't crank

I had a similar issue initially. Can you move the solenoid "arm" freely (forget the proper name for it) with a screwdriver or small crow bar? Once I got mine to move freely, I was able to crank it.
