So ended up finding a starter locally, got to love truck shops that are staffed by packrats! I think the guy had enough truck parts to build an Auto-bot....
Installing it this weekend when I have help.
And the amount of arcing damage inside the starter makes me very no in reusing this thing...
IronPlanet reported it had intermittent starting issues. It would make a loud grinding noise as well as a whirring noise and would then have to spin down before I could try starting it again. It would usually finally engage correctly on the second or third try and the engine would run just fine.
My starter decided to stop working. Checked everything out, had a bad battery, still wont start. Took the starter apart and it's toasted. Shaft is warped and there's arcing damage plus rust inside on EVERYTHING. I also snapped off a cover bolt when putting it back together...that's how I found...
Long-ish list...
1. Near daily driver
2. Disaster relief work (can ford 30 inches of water, tow a bobcat, take 2 strike teams of 6, their chainsaws, pole saws, and safety gear in ONE trip. try doing that in a pickup.)
3. Hauling stuff to the dump for friends, coworkers, family
4. Destressing...
So! Passed the 4mm stone.. but have 5 more total saved up....yayyyy...
Snagged a pic of the boot.
I can just remove the castle nut when it comes time to swap it out, right? No need to screw with adjusting the entire tie-rod?
Just make sure before you try to title it that you don't need a notarized bill of sale. Iron planet charges an extra $25 for that. Florida doesn't require it....found out the hard way
the state's offices are all tied into one central office\data center. usually, the more rural you go, the less number of people use that office. therefor, the workers are less busy and everyone knows each other so they are nice to everyone.
in rural areas, yes, one office per county usually...
I've tried searching, either my google-foo skills are getting rusty in my old, kidney stone infected age, or this hasn't come up yet. Which I find very hard to believe.
My passenger side tie rod boot is ripped in several spots. Is there a drop-in replacement or someone that sells them? Going to...
It's built to tow, not be loaded down. I'm going to be towing a bobcat behind mine for disaster relief work and will be way over listed max towing weights. It will not have an issue as you can tow a LMTV behind a LMTV...
Yo dog I heard you like LMTVs...
ive put aprox 1.5 tons in the back of mine on a dump run. truck was so quiet i thought something was broken.
i really wish the data plate said offroad on it for both cap and towing max.....btw, what is the max on-road towing weight?
the unit hes thinking of is a mini split, but built for trucks. ive looked at it and gotten quotes on some. its about the same price as doing the engine mounted one, if you go with american made parts. kinda interested in seeing his results, as im leaning heavily towards his idea.

orrrr do what i do: wear shorts and no shoes in the truck. :D
joking aside, gunny, if your doing what i think your doing i want in. back of cab mounted unit, correct?
