Rapco paint is no longer Gillespie?

I'm actually pretty happy with the RAPCO and how it turned out. It isn't quite as dead flat as the CARC is I will admit, but it's still very flat looking to me, and as I'm not planning on getting looked at under NVG conditions, it's close enough and easy enough to change whenever I want to look...

Rapco paint is no longer Gillespie?

I just got a call from Mark at Rapco. So here is what's going on. The supplier of the rattle cans that he was using is unable to supply him anymore. So he is now using a different spray can supplier. The manufacturer for the valve at the top of the can went under, so it's now a different...

    Painting m998

go into home depot and have them color match to FS 34094 for green. That's the original CARC color code. the "383" is actually a series of paint colors from what I can tell.

    Functional electric fan conversion.

you keep saying a lower temp thermostat. These engines like to run hot. Putting in a lower thermostat is usually a bad thing, as it can lead to issues over time from the engine not being hot enough to burn efficiently, especially in cooler climates.

Rapco paint is no longer Gillespie?

I still have half of a gallon can; this order was for a dozen rattle cans to use primarily for touch up. Being for touch up, if it doesn't match perfectly it will be a lot more obvious than if it was the entire rig.

Rapco paint is no longer Gillespie?

So I just opened a recent order of RAPCO paint for using as touch up paint, and the cans in it were NOT Gillespie. A company called "Custom Paint USA" is on the label. different volume, different propellent blend. No idea what type of paint it actually is. My main concern is that it might be...

Amtech top install - windshield latches?

One other catch that might work; the one for the pioneer tool tray. I just went out and measured one I have on the wall, it looks to be about 4 to 4.5 inches (adjustable) from the bolt holes for the mounting base to the hook on the end in the closed position...

    Functional electric fan conversion.

So what are the model and specs of this electric fan system?

What have you done to your HMMWV today/lately

Unfortunately that dashcam doesn't seem to record all the time properly, so I didn't.

What have you done to your HMMWV today/lately

So of all the places I could get a rock chip, it was directly in front of the dash camera. So I spent 45 minutes changing out the windshield today. Still need to redo the name stickers on top and the dash camera mounting pad, but other than that it's nice to have new glass. Would have taken a...

Optima Red Top Battery Premature Failure

From one point of view though, the amount that it will shorten it would be to approximately equal life of the other battery, thus the batteries will still have the expected lifespan of those that were originally purchased. On one hand I can see the argument that if one failed they should both...

Running 12v accessories in my m998? What’s the best way??

For the 60 amp, it's because it is 24V only. The front battery tends to charge a little higher than the second battery, and over time this means that the front battery overcharges, while the rear battery undercharges. Easily taken care of by rotating the batteries every month or two, but that...

Running 12v accessories in my m998? What’s the best way??

If it were me I would run a 24v-12V converter to charge up the 12V battery and leave the TCM on the original bank, as well as the 14V tap from the generator. Probably tie an isolator in so that the 12V bank gets disconnected when the truck is turned off. My reasoning for this is that I refuse...

    Info on Hzs

Typically 5% is close enough unless your equipment has sensitive electronics. 57-63hz shouldn't cause any issues. Just for peace of mind sake, Generac for many years made generators that ran at 58hz in order to be just that little bit quieter when running. I have yet to hear of any issues...

Optima Red Top Battery Premature Failure

My battery of choice at this point is NorthStar. U.S. manufacture. The ones in my HMMWV were bought through BatteriesPlus, and have a 5 year full replacement warranty.

    HMMWV replacement tires

Least expensive would likely be Treadwright tires. They are a remold tire (not to be confused with retread), and I haven't heard anything bad about them, other than you have to buy the warranty to go with the tires (only like $12 I think for a 1 year warranty) Other than that Feltz tire seems...

Optima Red Top Battery Premature Failure

You might be better off to have 12v maintenance chargers, one for each battery, rather than a single 24v maintainer. I've heard of a lot more failures with them since they moved their manufacturing to Mexico. Optima used to be one of the best, now they're just a premium import, and well below...

    Aux Fuel Tank

One potential issue with mounting a fuel tank higher than the day tank is the chance it could gravity siphon fuel into the day tank even after the unit is shut down. You would lose all the fuel in the aux tank onto the ground and into the housing of the generator.

What have you done to your HMMWV today/lately

I have gloves, but have never really gotten into the habit of using them. It always seems to end up more hassle than it is worth to me, so they typically only come out when dealing with lots of grease, like bearings and such. Mine aren't green though, so that could be part of the issue.
