Appreciate all the advice on honing! I'll get the 3 stone type then and find out what angle and grit of abrasive to use. So constant slow speed and smooth up and down motion to get the proper angle, right? And maybe only do it for 20-30 seconds total per cylinder?
Still pulling out rust with...
Yes, I plan to pull the pistons on all 3 units and thoroughly clean the ring grooves on them and inspect the rings.
I don't have a hone tool. Any recommendations on the type to get? I see a couple of different types as follows:
On the head gasket, I believe there used to be 3 different...
Thanks. Yes, it really does appear to be "miracle juice"!
I was able to secure a "decarb set" of gaskets for $42. Here's the pic of what's included. From what I can tell, the only gasket not in this set is the crank case access panel one.
Lister Petter part # 657-34231
I was also able to...
The only effect it has on the pistons is a positive one. It loosens up the carbon deposits so they come off easily. Yes, this stuff is amazing. Getting ready to go pick up another gallon of the stuff (which I could get the 5 gallon jugs locally). The 2009 head has been soaking in it since...
I'll check McMaster-Carr. Thanks!
Also, I found an outfit in Miami (FG Wilson) that happens to have surplus stock of Lister Petter parts, including gasket sets. Hoping to pick up 3 sets for around $150! They are checking the warehouse now.
The 2009 came out looking real nice after soaking in evapo-rust for 24 hours.

I then added a little diesel to let it soak in that overnight. Even without using clay, I was getting very little, if any, leak down past the pistons...
Worked some more on the 2006 this evening. This engine had a repair label on it dated the same year as the whole unit. Maybe it never did work to begin with?
Here's the tag:

Once I got the rockers off, I realized that this engine has never...
I took a look at eBay and there's a guy selling the 657-34231 gasket set for ~$52 and the 657-34241 set for ~$68. Not sure if one is more complete than the other? Those prices seem pretty good.
Another guy there is selling aftermarket LPW2 head gaskets for $50. The cross to 752-40751. Think...
Thanks.
I just for off the phone with Kraft Power about gaskets, and they quoted me $160.93 each for the gasket set for the LPW2! And that does not include the head gasket! The head gasket is $48.40, and they only have 1 in stock. There's a lead time of 14-16 weeks on ordering additional...
I noticed that the TM 9-2815-252-24 Engine Service Manual references the engine model as DN2M. Here's a shot of the engine plate from the 2009 genset:
Note that it is a DN2W. I guess that just means it is a later revision, right? I wonder if that makes a difference when ordering parts or...
I got the 2007 soaking in that stuff since yesterday afternoon. I actually had a gallon of it sitting around. I also put some on the piston tops on the 2009.
Here's a pic from last night.

I'll check on it this morning and run the brush over...
While I was at it, I figured I might as well start on the 2006 unit. I got the exhaust and manifolds pulled and this one has standing water in the exhaust inlets and I'm not sure what's up with that one rocker bolt. It also looks like one rocker arm was replaced.
This unit was missing the top...
With the 2007 unit apart and soaking, I decided to move on to the 2009 unit, which was the nicest of the bunch with no bent panels although it was missing the control panel cover and most of the gauges were busted.
I removed the front housing as with the 2007 unit. This one had a major oil...
I have a gallon on evapo-rust and was wondering about doing just that. I'll go fill up the cylinders and hit it with a wire brush. The ATF solution that has been in there since yesterday hasn't drained out any at all, so I don't think the evapo-rust will either. After completing that, I'll...
Wow, yours looks in pretty bad as well CDR. I thought the $80 gasket set included the head gasket as well. That's unfortunate.
I'll definitely pull the oil pressure relief and clean it out.
I removed the front section for easy access. Was pretty easy to do, just time consuming...
Taking them down to the skids have been my plan all along. I understand the gasket kit is quite reasonably priced at around $80.
Between the 3 802A's I picked up, I'm missing the following essential pieces:
1 right side fan shroud
1 oil filler plug
1 air filter housing cap
Also missing these...
Ok, I'll provide links to the high rez versions then as I go.
Yep, that's my John Deere tractor. I love it. I'm primarily using it for logging right now believe it or not. I have a grapple for the front as well as the back. Here's a shot of it when I first picked it up from the dealer...
