Hi Paul. Welcome to the Outfit!
Like @ToddJK mentioned, getting the TM's (Technical Manuals) for your truck will be a big plus. When you have the chance, snap a few more pictures and post them in the 5-Ton section. You will find that we like pictures!

@frank8003 was definitely a first class individual! I purchased several groups of tools from him for my truck toolbox. Always a good deal - and like you said @juanprado - he always included several extra somethings in every US Mail package that I received.
.
Very recently somebody here on a Memorial Day Parade run had what appeared to be a custom (possibly homemade) cover on their Deuce. It was a white cover - reflecting the heat a whole lot better than a green one would.
I couldn't really tell if the sides were rolled up or maybe just not...
.
Charging those lead acid batteries inside the cab of your truck might not be good for your health... Don't know if maybe you could build some sort of cover? Something to separate the crew compartment from the battery compartment?
Open fire in the cab of the truck could "make you go boom"...
.
It could be that over time, some sort of critter has built a dirt nest in the fuel tank vent lines. Easy cheap way to test that is to remove the fuel cap. Maybe wait until you hit a fairly smooth patch of road, pull over and remove the cap and see if the symptoms change.
.
Can't wait to see some more pictures of your new-to-you truck. The auction pic makes it look pretty sharp. Maybe out there where you are - just maybe there is a little less competition bidding on military trucks. Hope so anyhow...
.
It is rare that everything works out so well. Nice that you have a good connection with the fire department! So, off grid means there aren't any power lines to your place either. Guessing maybe solar to supply electricity?
Not a lot of competition for boulders - but if you want or need...
.
Heck of a deal on the truck if you can find somebody that needs a tank.
Nothing like having that loader when you needed it... Ten miles is a long ride on one of those, but having it solved the truck problem.
.
The underside of Marine Corps 5-Tons and the SeaBees especially have the entire bottom of their trucks sprayed with something that looks and feels like silicon. I don't know for sure what it is, but everything - axles, transmissions, bottom of the motor and half way up the sides has that...
.
Dang that is neat. Even removed the fender tubs to really do that bed right.
I sure hope that you get some real enjoyment out of that truck!
She is going to be as nice as if it was fresh off the assembly line...
.
I installed a NOS muffler several months back.
The stack was somewhat high dollar, so I decided that an off the shelf pipe and clamps would do the job.
Picture attached.

It is an old thread, but here is a little information about @Crf450x and his installation of an Eaton RTO 9513 in a M923

Well by gosh, if you pick her up and drive it home - snap us a picture or two. Maybe even one out the front windshield if you can and post it up on the forum for that. Welcome to the Outfit too!
If you have a chance, be sure to download the Technical Manuals (TMs) for your new-to-you truck...
.
I was pretty impressed with @irnworker433 's work too. Don't know what it might look like under the top of that fender - but to me it looked as good as brand new!
