I paid $5k for my A1 troop carrier, non-running, plus fees. It was local, so shipping was an easy $100 on a rollback-would've been a 45 minute job if I could get a working truck and a car trailer on the same day, but the stars weren't aligning. It has a 6.5L GEP and was configured with the...
Nice paper? Great paper. This is probably the most useful resource I've seen to prep for a 4L80E conversion. It's very visual guide showing me the components, where they go, and thoroughly explains their function and normal operational values. This will be extremely useful as soon as my...
I read something about "Spark spark..." Diesel ignites fuel by compression only-no spark. When cold (anything below 65F, if I recall correctly), the glow plugs must cycle to warm the cylinder so the fuel can ignite easily. Like everyone here has said, read the TM. There's a Technical Manual...
What RWH said. Some of mine were really stuck down, but it really was just mud holding them in. Just keep an eye out for metal straps or brackets that run over top of any of the pads or mats, because you'll have to remove those before those mats can come out. I think that would be the pad for...
All of the guages are notoriously inaccurate. If it's a sudden, intermittant failure, you might try checking the wiring connections of all the guages to clean them and apply a nice corrosion and water-resistant dielectric grease to protect it for a while. Otherwise, a nice infrared thermometer...
Well, there's a collection of maintenance how-tos in one of the stickies, but I agree that stickies for commonly done "non-maintenance"/mods might be pretty cool.
In the mean time, something that might work for yourself is just making use of your web browser's favorites/bookmarks feature. As...
Welcome here from Indiana. Look forward to seeing some of your own photos of your new-to-you M1123. I've been a kid in a candy store over my M998A1 once I got it a few weeks ago and I haven't even gotten mine to start yet, but there's a very good chance that time is upon me this weekend. Do...
I too just got some new LED headlights in today. Some nice Trucklite heated units that are pre-wired for the military terminals. Also had my 200A Alt install kit come in, so I'm ready to knock out some serious electrical work this weekend! Also nice was I got confirmation that the order was...
Finally found out what this is! If you check out 11-215 of the -20 TM you'll see that it's a sling-load spreader bar for an M997 Ambulance! NSN: 4910-01-313-8839 P/N: 12342102 Chapter 2-1 of TM 4-48.11 tells you all about how to rig it up and make use of it. Looks like there's a few other...
I believe you! I'll grow some patience, buy some standard bulbs to hold me over, and subscribe to this thread so I've got the good updates when you're ready. ;-)
Grabbed a new Niehoff N1228-2 (EDIT: Look at note below. Don't buy this model) 200 Amp Alt yesterday out of Columbus, OH. Turns out my 60 Amp alternator wasn't connected for a good reason. If anybody wants a good condition bracket for the 60A, any of the brand new mounting hardware (only...
So I gotta be that guy...any update on these for the new year? I thought that this was cool, but unnecessary until I first powered up my dash last night. Very disappointed in the original incandescent lights it has.
Feels like a dumb question, but I'm not 100% sure on this one so I needed to ask it. I picked up a MFY-6714UT starter, NSN 2920-01-507-7423. It's unfortunately a bit different than the MFY-6701 units that are detailed in the TMs I have. The wiring of the actual starter motor itself was...
What's the make and model of your 200 Amp alternator? I'd like to assume you're using an N1225-2.
Looking at TM 9-2320-280-24P vol 1, section 38-1 (A2 application), I pulled that the pulley nut is MS21245-L12, a self-locking nut. If we look at the later section, 40-1 (A1/Original...
Being honest, I'd consider my google-fu to be above average, but I overlooked that data on parttarget. That'll do wonders for me on hunting down a couple of parts. Thanks!
With the warmer weather, I looked and found that my old 60 Amp alt is toast. Due to "it's too cold out here and I want to be back inside" issues I had been facing, I never noticed that one of the mounting ears and the terminals are broken off, so this thing is pretty much just salvage value...
That instruction was trash and I see a lot of discussion about it here. If you want to hook it up for proper dual-voltage use, check out TM 9-2320-280-20 Vol 1 and look at section "1-23.2. GENERATING SYSTEM OPERATION (200 AMPERE DUAL VOLTAGE ALTERNATOR)"
It has a simple diagram there to show...
To the contrary, I used UShip once and had a good experience, but it was a bicycle coming up out of Florida up to Indiana. The guy that accepted our bid was just some joe with a box truck and took every bid he could get along the way to places he was already travelling to, so we got a good deal...
