    Vent lines

Mine has the fording kit, so I can't verify everything. Pretty sure though that there are two separate vent systems on this thing. Reason I say this is there is one vent line that does run to the air filter housing inlet (not the one to the restriction gauge) and a second vent line that goes...

Gearing up my M998 for Alaska

Yup, it's all about knowing what you are doing, and taking your time. I remember in the Army one time out at a range center, I got to drive the back road to see if the fuel HEMTTs would be able to make it. (Rodrigues Range center for anyone who's been to Korea) I decided to drive around the...

    Vent lines

Depending on where the other end of the lines go to. I would expect everything in the system to be sealed except for the end of the vent that's actually supposed to be open to atmosphere, i.e the actual vent portion. If you're blowing in from the vent tube then there are no other paths for the...

    Speedometer Flutter

Simplest explanation for this occurrance would be the tires are out of round.

Axle broken? M998 front wheels not turning in shallow snow

It's an automatic transmission, so it's designed to allow some slippage until it's locked up at cruising speeds. The only thing to worry about the engine is overheating it if you're doing it too long too hard, but a couple minutes in the snow is well within design specs of everything.

What have you done to your HMMWV today/lately

Yes I am. Put everything together without them, the bulkhead is about half an inch low from where it should be for the troop seats.

    Tie rod end boots

There is also a year separation between the A1 and A2 trucks compared to the civvy versions. I think it was 95 and older is A1, 96 and newer is A2 components (where it actually makes a difference)

Axle broken? M998 front wheels not turning in shallow snow

http://www.hummerknowledgebase.com/driving/btmt.html Read the above article for some information about how the drive system on these actually works. Short answer though, power will always take the path of least resistance. if one side has less traction than the other, and starts spinning...

    Random switches and buttons

There is the chance your had convoy lights or something like that on it. Definitely not one I ever saw before though. you'll have to trace wires to figure it out.

    Authentic Side Mirrors

mine the bottom bracket for the mirror is straight, not curved like that. You can also look for the NSN on the mirror housing.

    Random switches and buttons

I think the thing behind the passenger seat you're referring to is the circuit breaker for the transmission control module. No idea what the one by the driver's door is.

What have you done to your HMMWV today/lately

Sure, tease me. I've been looking for a couple of those brackets for a while and not available anywhere, then you have to show off that you have some :p Got me motivated though to paint my 2 man bulkhead, and drag out the troop seats to power wash them. I have a vertical barrier in the...

    Authentic Side Mirrors

I have a set of the chinese ones. Hardware is all metric, paint flakes off easily. Mounting brackets are metal on them, aluminum. There is a spacer on the bottom mount that's iron, mine is rusting. They seem to work okay, a little hard to adjust and hard to keep positioned. Not sure exactly...

    Outer CV boot

Hummerpartsguy has the outer boot on sale right now for the 10k axles. Usually though to do the outer you have to take apart the inner boot unless you buy a boot spreader to stretch the new boot over the joint.

    Outer CV boot

True, but I think those ones are made of Chinesium. Even if I bought one of those, I'd still want to put a new boot on the old one and use it as an emergency spare.

    Outer CV boot

Figure out if you have the 7k or the 10k axle, then do a search by the part number. It's all in the TM. They are available lots of places, and some people have taken them to the auto parts store and matched them up with the boot from other vehicles as well.

'86 M998 Humvee issue with headlights and turnsignals

The main thing that they share is the light control switch. A bad ground somewhere might cause power to feed back through a different circuit than is intended, so there is that possibility. You mentioned that you tried a different light switch assembly, it's unlikely that both have failed...

    92' M998 Horn problem

Al Milcommoguy said, have to check all those places and make sure the switch is on. It's also probably not powered how you would think, when the light switch is in service or drive positions, the wires are live to the horn, then from the horn it goes to the button in the steering wheel. So...

    Speedometer Flutter

I love the centramatics. I can do everything for the wheels/tires at home without having to take it to a shop. Not to mention sometimes as tires wear the balance changes on them, and the centramatics can accommodate that. The local shop (les schwab) says their tire balancer is rated for 150...

    Speedometer Flutter

Mine did that until I put on tires that were actually round and centramatics to balance everything. Now it rides smooth enough that I'm slightly freaked out about it, and the speedometer is almost rock solid.
