What have you done to your CUCV today/lately? - Part 1

I replaced all 4 front door hinge pins and put new door latch post on with the little plastic cover. Drivers door opens and closes with no effort or noise. Colton did the passenger side and it still takes a bit of a push to latch all the way. Not near as much as before though.

    33" tires on M1009 CUCV

SeeBee Mike, Do you mean the tie rod boot or possibly the drag link boot? Ball joint boot on the steering knuckle would be kind of hard for a tire to get to. I have 33 x 12.50 BFG A/T tires on mine and they aren't even close to toughing any part of the steering system. Are you sure you have...

    M1009 Voltmeter

26 volts is what the yellow/green dividing line is supposed to indicate. 28.8 volts is what the little hash in the green section is supposed to be. No glow plugs on a warm engine not running with good batteries should be around 25.2 volts which will be just below the yellow/ green dividing...

Truck shutting off after driving/ return valve?

The vacuum thing on the side of the pump is the valve that controls how much vacuum your transmission sees. Moving it front ward or back ward varies where your shifts occur. The black thing next to the throttle arm with the green wire is your fast idle solenoid. You really do need it when...

    New V-100

Rory, Are we going to have to remove our boots and put on white gloves before we look inside at Temple? Just trying to plan ahead on the packing list.

    Loose Front Hub HELP!!

The ring in the picture is a royal pain to get out the first time. The second and third time to actually. Screwdrivers and pliers will basically never get it out. I got a set like this: Amazon.com: Mayhew 60000 Dominator Hook and Pick Set, 4-Piece: Home Improvement Just a Snap-On version...

    M103A3 (M105) Brake Light Issue

Yep, as written above. Grounds. Do you have the star washers on both bolts of both lights? They really do make a difference. You want to freak yourself out, try this. Loosen the mounting bolts, have only a single wire out of the 4 hooked up. Then, turn on whatever that wire is. There is...

What Shocks Are you Running on your 1009?

I just last week put Sense a Track coil overs on all 4 corners of my 1009. The rear no longer sags, the front no longer dives after every bump and whenever the brakes are applied. Cornering is a lot more secure feeling. Putting a trailer on doesn't make the thing drive like a giant...

Boy scout camping with the M1009

Good looking set up. If you want to make the tail gate into a porch. Get 4 carabiners and some 1/4" or so chain. Hook onto the tail gate chain one link down from where it is welded to the bed. Hook the other end onto one of the tabs on the tail gate. Adjust for level. Just make sure you...

Boy scout camping with the M1009

Place to get original paint for M715

That depends on how much you are going to paint. You pulling the cab/bed/front end to paint every single part inside and out? 4 gallons. Just pulling the bed and painting everything else on the truck? 3 gallons. I wouldn't get less than 3 though even if the bed is staying on. Here is the...

Place to get original paint for M715

Rapco and Army Jeep Parts in PA are the only two places to get the Gillespie paint. As said above. Good stuff, easy to apply and pretty darn tough.

    M35 Gasser Fuse Box?

There are one or two "breakers" on the firewall between the steering column and the outside fender. If you are standing next to the drivers front wheel, you will see them. My 1952 without a heater only has one. The picture below shows it as the dirty brownish thing above the large heater hose...

Boy scout camping with the M1009

Nice set up. I have been using my M1009/M101 for the past few camp outs as well with the Scouts. Before that, the M35 or the M715 was used for just about all of them. The 1009 lets me haul 3 more boys and keep up with everybody else. Big plus. We are under burn bans 90% of the time around...

    Power port?

You had to know this was coming. Read the -10 manual. It has pictures of everything in the cab and tells you what they do.

RMP and speeds in a stock M1009

Glen, I found the odometer and the speedometer being off different ratios odd too. My speedo is 12% slow while my odometer is 6% slow. When I had the stock tires, the odomoter was off no more than 2/10's after 100 miles compared to gps distance for the trip. Yet, the speedo was about 6% off.

RMP and speeds in a stock M1009

Measure your tires too. They are probably closer to 29"-30" than the 31" printed on the sidewall. This is a great site to plug numbers into: Randy's Ring & Pinion. RPM Calculator. They even have an app for smart phones. Last month I was following Kwai in my 1009 while he was trying to...
