I second what was just said. If you don't need the 12V, I would sell it and just buy a modern higher output and more efficient/reliable 24V alternator. Or, if yours is currently working fine and you don't need the additional power, just sell it and pocket the money.
Having owned both (M35A2 and M925A2):
M35 "+": Can burn 100% waste motor oil, removing the fuel cost of the hobby. WildChild467 drives his as his daily driver all summer long, with $0 spent in fuel. Is more of a reasonable size to park in your yard and in public. Has 5 speed manual trans, so...
I do have to say that I am envious of the generator head size on these though. Likely a power density concern, being the larger the area to make X power, the less the load per area, and it will be able to maintain that rating in high temps as mentioned (more margin). A Honda is a better fit...
That is a ridiculous amount of gasoline/oil to handle and pay for, unless you were not funding it.
DieselAddict doesn't need to run his generator any longer to prove anything to you. He's happy with what he has. I see plenty of broken MEP's littering the classifieds though...
You're on the right track. Some have this feature built into them already. It is called an unloader, and it is a small pin located on the pressure switch with a hose running to the compressor outlet area. When the pressure switch cuts off, it depresses this pin which bleeds off the pressure...
When you did that with yours, it went "zap", and everything broke. My small Honda genset goes in the trunk of my car and anywhere I want, easily, including up and down stairs. I don't need it to work in the arctic or desert (though it may do just fine at). It ran all 3 days consecutively of...
That fabulous shirt won me $500 in less than 2 hours at the blackjack table on the cruise ship. I highly recommend everybody to acquire one. I also wear it when I drive the 9 so people don't ask if I'm in the service.
Does your Motor Head shirt have any historical significance? If you keep...
They are usually not difficult. Not sure what alternator that vehicle uses, but the typical connections are as follows, for most internally regulated alternators found on medium and heavy duty diesel engines:
B+= goes directly to battery +, may also be connected to starter B+ found close by...
Wanting a place to stow the cargo cover on board, in addition to a few tools in an attempted organized manner, I purcahsed and bolted down a Greenlee job site box, and a DeWalt tool chest. Colors are wrong, but that is what they came in on the exact sizes I desired. They lock, and will each...
If the pinion flange nut is too tight, you can put a socket and breaker bar on it and wedge the handle into the frame rail. Then, drive the truck forward or backward a few feet, depending upon which was fhe nut needs fo dofate to loosen.
I did fhis move on a GMC C7500 medium duty truck...
You'll need to do it by using the dial indicator method. Get the tools from eBay, and the timing table from any Cummins dealer via the engine serial number. For example, the injection timing is stated as 8 degrees on my 6CTA8.3 engine ID tag. There is no magic mark of where to just bolt it...
An easier fix may be to openly vent all 3 of your axles to the atmosphere. I did, and my pinion flange leaks immediately stopped. The factory vents in these axles allows a small amount of pressure to be built up before opening. That can push oil past seals that are getting tired. Few threads...
Thread should be in 5T mod section.
I'd either buy a tired Cummins 400 turbo (can be had cheap) and rebuild it, or swap in the later 8.3L turbo and turn that up. With the 8.3L, you will double your fuel efficiency also. In addition, the lighter 8.3L engine will help it accelerate quicker...
Added a 12V slave style jump port. More useful for the things I own. Applicable cable has 500 amp NATO single pin connector on one end, and heavy duty squeeze type battery clamps on the other, so can be connected to anything. Running two group 31's, this is simply connected to one of them...
