    CUCV M1008 Rag Joint Replacement

My first suggestion is longer bolts that you can start and not tighten until both are going. I have a mental image of you playing see saw with the rag joint. Or, you just can't get the 3 things lined up on both sides at the same time? Are you using all the same parts except for the new rag...

    TX MV Rally Picture Thread

I forgot you were in my truck taking all those pictures. Thanks for posting them. Only a week to go until we do it again.

My possible return to the M/V world! M1008 Question.

When my starter died a month or so ago. The engine barely moved with two good batteries. Hook up the slave cable to a running Duece and it fired up like normal. Doing that made the starter really hot though. You would still be ahead to start it and crawl underneath to see if the starter is hot.

    Generator/Alternator Swap ????

Ken J, From 1968 up, there were about 4 different versions of the huge 60 amp 24 volt military alternator used. Several different makers made them. About the only thing they all have in common is the mouting tabs, shaft size and 2 wire hook up. Where the fan is, internals and how they looked...

    Generator/Alternator Swap ????

That wiring kit works great and takes about 5 minutes to wire up. You will need to find the Military 60 Amp alternator as used on newer full 24 volt vehicles such as the M715, M35A2 and all the 5 tons. The pulleys might not be the same as yours. Air impact and a gear puller make swapping them...

    Fender-mounted heater THAT pathetic?

Crane truck actaully has a great heater wiring thread from a few years ago. Once the server/picture issues are fixed this afternoon, do a search for it.

Valve Adjustment? Do the CUCV 6.2L require a valve adjustment?

I love the Ps comics with Connie. They are very helpfull diagnostic tools. That is why I specified Marvel in the post above because super heroes don't work on MV's. They also don't look as good as Connie.

    Fender-mounted heater THAT pathetic?

The -20 talks you through how to wire it. The simple version is this. The truck has two circuit breakers on the out side of the steering column on the engine side of the firewall. One is the horn and I forgot what the other one does. Wire #11 is power in to the breaker. Use one of the fancy T...

My possible return to the M/V world! M1008 Question.

Diesel engines need to be spun fast to start. 75° is still not warm enough for a 6.2 to start without glow plugs. At least not without 5-10 seconds of cranking. Cranking at the proper speed that is. If you go back, look at the volt meter and see where it is when you turn on the key. Right...

    Fender-mounted heater THAT pathetic?

I didn't see it mentioned in the thread yet. Engine heat is needed. That is why the artic cover for the front end blocks off the radiator just about all the way. A M35 has a great cooling system for summer use. It is too good for winter time. Unless you are on the throttle on the road at...

    Georgia to texas, 2.5 ton

Yeah, you might be about the same cost to drive it since you are only looking at 700-800 miles. That is just 2 tanks of fuel.

We were blowing pumpkins up with that stuff a few weeks ago and thought it was neat. How much did you pack into that car?

    Bobbed 5 ton beware

The military tires have 100% sidewall aspect ratios when it is written as 11.00 or 16.00. That means that a tire 11.00 inches wide will have an 11 inch sidewall as well. Times that by 2 because the sidewall is on the top and bottom, add in the rim size to get how tall the tire is...

after injection pump change glow plug light doesn't come on

Are the plugs still working as noticed by fast starts and the volt meter being way down before and during cold starts for about 20 seconds? If so, then checking the bulb is what the -20 says to do. Then it has you pulling the control card and jumping a few wires to test it. I would suggest...

Valve Adjustment? Do the CUCV 6.2L require a valve adjustment?

Sorry about that then. I look at Chiltons as just a step above Marvel Comics when it comes to actually helping repair a vehicle. I figured since you are an experience mechanic type you would have the same opinion and took that as a critique on my post. All good.

Valve Adjustment? Do the CUCV 6.2L require a valve adjustment?

I don't get it Westech? My answer was short, but factual. The 6.2 uses roller tipped hydraulic lifters. The rocker arms are on a shaft that is held down by a few bolts. That means there is no adjustment of any kind for the valves. They only way the valves could not be working is if the...

Installing a Passenger Side Jerry Can Holder on a M35

TXdodgeman43 has the same mount on his M35A2. He got it as a kit from somewhere. The Dzus fasteners that came with the kit had a female part that installed under the step. I have bugged him for the past year about finding another kit and we haven't seen one. A fast way to get to your...
