That's the rebuild completed - one further note or tip for initial disassembly or final reassembly on the vehicle..
Remove the sheave pulley guard #3 whilst winch cable is under load/tension, then release tensioner/load and pull slack above the sheave pulley - this will allow the cable loop to...
Jeff - I am with you on this - if the cable is well lubed, then you are protecting the lube by covering the cable, especially if you hardly use the winch and don't get to check it's condition - BUT as the original poster said (???) - the corrosion damage caused to level wind trolley pivot shaft...
OK - I am not one for canvas jewelry just for the sake of it on authentic/show military vehicles, but there is a need, in my opinion/experience of my truck, for a level wind cover to keep debris from blocking the drain holes in the trolley frame...
and to finish!
Part Three - Sheave Pulley.
Firstly - ensure that the outside of the sheave shaft and the inner surface of the sheave frame are completely paint/rust free. Even burnished with power wire wheel. This will assist in the reassembly.
I made a captive drift out of a large bolt with...
Perhaps this conversation should be moved to the other thread...
Several points... The rollers need to be a certain radius due to the size of the cable. If solid, except for a spindle, they would weigh a ton!
Once full of grease, it only takes a couple of pumps to lube the bearings - grease is...
Washers - orientation
Just to clarify orientation of the thrust washer and spacer washer in relation to the bearing of the sheave pulley wheel and frame.
Not totally sure what you are referring to... "roller reservoir"?
All my fairlead rollers were packed with grease, quite the volume.
If we are talking the same thing, sounds like "someone" got tired of pumping grease and decided to 'pour' lube in instead. From memory, I am thinking there are...
Part Two - Sheave Swivel.
Grease double ball race on underside of swivel sheave frame bearing ring
Grease double row of ball bearings in lower bearing ring in frame assembly
Cut long strips of felt, ~1/4" wide. Wrap around groove in sheave frame. Lightly grease each circumfrence so that it...

Felt washers form craft sheet.
Making the felt washers: Cookie cutter for outside diameter, then the inside 'hole' was hand cut with scissors, by folding the washer in half and carefully following what looked like the approximate thickness.
I did try a few by folding it into quarters, but...
It's been a while, but I decided to finish the rear level wind rebuild....
Part one - Trolley wheels.
Turned up "cookie cutter" for felt washers...
Cut out 32 washers, that's 4 per original 1.
I bought sheet felt from WallyWorld. Similarly any craft store. Use small hammer just like doing...
Update: Managed to get the second boom jack freed up - as much as the jacks and some blocking can achieve.
The second one took a lot more heating - pretty much went up and down the whole tube - below red hot. This also burnt off a load if the cruddy paint too.
I'll leave them overnight with...

this is a very brief clip of the condensation popping out of the pin hole! It surprised me so I thought I'd try do the youtube thingey...
if this can come out - it means that the unsiezing solution has a pathway in.
Top bracket finished - time to give it a go.
After applying enough pressure to find the inefficiencies in the design/fab, with ensuing repair and strengthening, I cranked the jacks up then started to heat the outer tube, from top to bottom in a narrow strip. Add a little bashing - not enough...
Yup - this will be hung inside my shop - through trap door to loft, so that the jacks work vertically. I'll caulk the collet/collar so that I can pool penetrating oil whist the setup is left under pressure.
Haven't ever tried the acetone/TQF but I'd like to.
