Two oldies together: a 1963 5-ton dump truck weighing 22,000 lbs and a more then a century old steam power hammer checking in at 44,000 lbs. The anvil part of the hammer is mostly buried; total height of the machine is over 20 feet.
This was during repairing the left front brake cylinder and...
I forgot, more information about the history of the truck and on the Cold War in Europe, especially about the POMS depots can be found on the site of our Czech Emigration Museum.
Also, the link to download the pdf file on the conversion from dump to tractor.
The truck has not been restored yet, but we still made a poster explaining its history and role in the Cold War in Europe, and how it ended up first in the Netherlands and then in the Czech Republic.
The picture left bottom corner shows a line of dump trucks with coal for Berlin
In the last two years, I finally got the steering box to work again, repaired the left front brake and repacked the hub, and made sure the hoist worked again as should be.
When you open the steering gear box, you shouldn't find this (pics left). The replacement I got from the Netherlands...
Most interesting fact about this truck?
This is the original M51A2 dump truck "Rambo" as I bought it and brought it to the "Spanish Inquisition" (the Dutch DoT vehicle car compliance checking institute RDW) for the first time.
This is my now converted M52A2 tractor "Rambo" going for the...
Learning something new here. I did not drive much, but I always just use regular diesel without additives. Somebody mentioned definitely NOT to use SHELL V-Power diesel (which I use in my private cars) because it cleans too much these old engines.
Additives in diesel are very unknown here...
Might as well put my money where my mouth is. Besides, there are only nice-looking well-painted MVs in the list now, and there should be at least one unrestored work horse (better said, just standing lazily around doing nothing).
Somebody should give the belladonna's a run for their money...

Misunderstanding, patracy, the pol should definitely stay closed until after the nomination closes, s o no voting before the 15th of the month, if possible.
PB, I agree this should not be here, but was worried those involved would not read it. When you think it is enough please do not delete...
PB and Patracy
I have been pondering that rule. We often have a lack of campaigning. So what about changing the rule a bit.
1.- Open the "vote" thread at the same time as the nomination thread, but block the voting option until the 15th of the month.
2.- Make a mock-up first post for patracy...
Me too here, torn by different loyalties and preferences, and the current race results.
So unless its very special, it has to be a BIG truck (or a bike). Swiss and Alex are high on the list, but they are now in the middle, my vote does not change anything there.
I'll vote for Jeep Nasty. My...
I never had that urge, and still don't know why I ended up in the Czech Republic instead of Canada.
I am more of a "go West, young man". Not so young anymore, but the urge is still there.
Very nice truck.
I got the good guy at the Dutch Tüv; my truck should never have been permitted.
In the end, the guy agreed because the truck would leave the Netherlands for our museum in the Czech Republic and actually never would drive on the Dutch road.
