Batteries Blew Up & Caused A Fire

i hear that !! .. i don't know if there's any easy-to-use liquid that neutralize acids , something that can permanently stay on surfaces .. Cleaning up an acid-laced truck is bad enough, but you have those walls, floor, and ceiling too, amongst whatever else in there at the time o_O .. uggg...

What have you done to your 5 ton this week?

Fair warning.... I did 73 with two M818s on my stepdeck .. The 818 up front got most all of its new-but-flaky CARC blown off within the first 20 minutes of the haul

What have you done to your 5 ton this week?

If it has a plugged (or open) hole on the lower firewall just above the accelerator pedal, you can bet it was ;) It already has the gasser electric horn slots in the grille and the gasser tarapulin box on the left side of the bed above the fuel tank

    Vehicle tie down

on the right track but heavier and considerably wider is better.... sheet bed-steel can rip .. i always preferred tie downs that are welded AND bolted , preferably bolted to something stronger than a bed sheet underneath the mounting plate.. Some DOT jurisdictions also like to see that redundancy

    Air Pack bypass

I "bypassed" a bad air pack and operated that truck for many years that way as a "flatland" haul truck.. But Never was on the road with it... There were no issues to any other part of the system from doing it, but your leg(s) will grow.. Yes it can be done in an emergency if there's a pack...

    Vehicle tie down

As you know, the top rail of a cargo bed is not strong .. I have not installed rings on my 6x6's but I have in one of the box trailers, to secure heavy LTL palletized cargo (truck & equip parts) and hauled a whole rolling jeep in there once on a backhaul... Wooden hardwood floor thus I drilled...

What have you done to your 5 ton this week?

The newest M809-series I have now is 1972 and it has the tubular grille as do my older ones.. As you have learned, a 1976-build has the flat-bar design .. Not sure when the change happened but this may narrow it down

What have you done to your 5 ton this week?

The M809-series has the same tranny as an overdrive-equipped M39-series truck (the M51 is within the M39-series). Only difference is some pto's are dual-outlet, others single

What have you done to your 5 ton this week?

I just love how you put so much detail into your posts for everyone.. You should be commended by all here ! .. The town guys had smoked that parking brake pretty good ! .. But in their defense, we saw (or smelled) that source of smoke from time to time in the army as well ... PS: Here's a...

What have you done to your 5 ton this week?

You guessed it, the town of new marlboro installed it for ether .. It was always a sore spot when i owned the truck, among a couple other tidbits that happened to it previously .. Glad you took the time to replace it with an expandable plug, and that type of plug sure was a good idea !

    Old photos of 5 ton trucks - M813, M923

My M109A3 has delineator reflectors on its mudflaps .. It's last duty was a stateside guard unit for at least five years according to paperwork found in the truck.. Was the truck in Europe, shipped back, the reflectors never removed by the final unit? .. Anyones guess is as good as another...

Batteries Blew Up & Caused A Fire

Oh the power of hydrogen !! Although an uncle and i invested in hydrogen fuel automotive technology some years ago, can you imagine the fun, excitement, and apprehension to be had at the pump? :D .. I've had batts blow , not fun !! Your worst task is gonna be washing and neutralizing the...

Serial Number/Unit Markings for a 1953 Manufacturered Truck

it has the gas engine, it just might! ... Now, as for the multifuel remotor in mine, well, mine sure isn't going anywhere in a hurry except on a 30% downgrade in neutral with a hurricane tailwind ... Or over a cliff  don't get me wrong out there, the multifuels are a good engine for...

Serial Number/Unit Markings for a 1953 Manufacturered Truck

i don't recall ever seeing a frame rail stamp on a M39-series , but then again, they either had plenty of surface rust or plenty of paint .. Some say it should be drivers side outer rail somewhere between steering box to a point above the front axle.. Some say not all got stamped at birth, some...

Serial Number/Unit Markings for a 1953 Manufacturered Truck

Do you mean up above the crossmember inside the tunnel area? .. The control linkages head that way from the op levers and disappear inside the crossmember .. With 3 unrepairable hernias i cannot reach up inside that crossmember without a system of pulleys and rope .. It was "scary" enough to...

Serial Number/Unit Markings for a 1953 Manufacturered Truck

i was replying to his 2nd post which stated a guess of an 8000's number, just as it does in the quoted bit from that post that's included in my reply .. i did not see his later post , where he finally does say 3276 , which would be a correct sequence
