    1952 needs brakes and things.

that is a civilian-type hydra-vac unit typically found on medium-duty hydraulic-brake trucks of the 40's - 70's .. Basically an oversized automotive power brake booster like in your car or pickup truck.. The large rubber hose is the vacuum feed from the manifold. This is being used in lieu...

don't feel bad, I once received a SF97 for a '53 AM General .. Somebody on the typewriter at the GSA believed what they were told too ;)

    1952 needs brakes and things.

The US Air Force also did 12V conversions on tactical trucks , and of course there is the rare Reo M602 tactical 6x6, 12V from the factory .. There is a USAF TM covering the conversion, don't know the number off-hand, the TM is in my shop truck in a drawer

    1952 needs brakes and things.

Just a technical detail, AM General did not exist until the early 1970's. Your truck was most likely built by REO, but could also be from other builders such as Curtis-Wright, Studebaker, or Utica-Bend

    M34 Active duty

A forklift loading ammo crates? Wow what a concept. Where the heck were they when my armored BN was in the field? I lost count how many hundreds of 105mm crates we loaded, unloaded, reloaded, unloaded again, and lastly, load and unload the spent dunnage, in a day, all by hand. Apparently our...

    I may have a problem...

Well that's a nice way to honor him . Looks impressive. I was asking because I also have an A1 and would like to mark it for FLW range support early 60's- early 70's era, but am only familiar with what they had mid-late 70s .. I admit I have not done any web pic searches, the A1 is pretty low on...

    Towing 30k lbs?

1: you should be more concerned about stopping power and pintle capacity .. you have plenty of gears for that engine to get you anywhere you need with that load, you have low range all the way up into 5th (@30mph) before you hit the high side of the xfer case to go any faster , but a deuce is...

    Nhc250 valve injector overhead adjusting

Did not take it as a dig whatsoever ! ;) ... I expect someone who has successfully done something 50 times to be able to do the task in short order .. my post was an open admission that it was my 1st cummins overhead rodeo and to state the details of the overly-cautious path i took to do it , in...

    Nhc250 valve injector overhead adjusting

everything does go quicker when it's not your first rodeo .. I spent a good part of the morning reading and re-reading, and re-reading again from a number of sources including yours and the TM in order to make sure what I had to do sunk in and made sense, and a few you-tube videos as well to be...

Never underestimate the power of physics on your 20k winch

these busted cases appear to have been caused by the hwy depts using a wheel loader bucket to shove the trucks around, according to the horizontal scrape marks on the bumpers .. Apparently they don't think or just don't care that the bucket cutting edge can hit the winch housing underneath the...

    M809 and m35a2 cabs same?

I concur with kubotaman, as he states, the only difference is in the dash panel itself .. have sold a number of 5T cabs, incl the old M39-series (M54, M51, etc) for deuces and 4-door crew cab projects .. FYI the doors are same same

    Nhc250 valve injector overhead adjusting

WillWagner, that detailed post of yours from 07aug11 is irreplaceable.. Using it and the TM, I was able to do the overhead in less than a day. This included a lot of study time the same day, never done a 855 cummins before.. The TM is tricky and as someone mentioned, one of the charts is...

Reuse head gasket if not run yet

I did this on a '54 farmall gas/diesel tractor head to re-check the cylinder liner seats .. (while completing the initial torque, things did not feel quite right) .. All I did was spray on an extra coat of perma*** copper coat and torque it back down just a couple more pounds than previously...

    1950 M34 Model OC-54 REO Gold Comet

I concur with you about the M34, however, there were/are plenty of gas M35's and other gas-powered models within the G742/M44-series that were built by Studebaker, White, Curtis-Wright, Utica Bend, and if I missed one or two I am sure someone will pipe in that they own an example of a non-Reo...

    1950 M34 Model OC-54 REO Gold Comet

In the 1970's I occasionally grabbed a copy of the "Rock & Dirt" construction equip advertising newspaper. The ads for Memphis Equipment listed 5-ton's as "Big-M's" but always referred to the M34/35 deuce's they sold as "Eager Beaver's". Legend has it when the Reo trucks were first issued in...
