The Army used to convert gas 2.5t and 5t trucks to continental diesels themselves. A kit was designed with the fuel filters, linkages and harnesses required to do the job. Whether or not the data plate in the cab was changed would be problematic.
Post 12 has the straight skinny for those not in the know. The Army has a manual for everything. Vehicles come under the aegis of the Army Maintenance Management System (TAMMS) which dictates 5 echelons ranging from operator (-10 manual), organizational or company level (-20),l Direct Support...
Some tasks would be covered in the organizational maintenance manual such as filter changes etc. For the 809 series truck it is TM-9-2320-260-20. If you can find a direct support or -30 manual there may be something in there. For a teardown look to the manufacturer.
Never worked with LMTVs and FMTVs in service or read the TMs. If the window info is not in the organizational maintenance manual (-20) the only thing I can figure is the window work was assigned to direct support (-30) level shop work.
There is no such thing as a tow truck this is not expensive. If you have a picture of the subject truck post it so people will know how to figure the job. Without seeing it I would think you will need a roll back truck or a landoll trailer.
The red glad-hand is on the driver's side for the emergency connection. This side has a shut off valve. The blue connection is on the passenger's side and has no shut off valve, but when not in use has a vented dummy connection on it. The only item that would not likely to be found in a...
Another example of making apples out of oranges. The PTO shafts are different sizes and lengths. Flange plates that attach shaft to output shaft of PTO are probably different. used to have a 2.5t and 5t here with winches so I could do comparison shopping but they were sold. If it all fits...
When the air lines are hooked up emergency to emergency and service to service (they crossed over to do this ) the towed vehicle will act as a trailer and follow the towing vehicle assuming the brakes on the tow are in good order. Having a driver in the back will not improve things. If the tow...
The organizational maintenance manual for the 809 series trucks contains detail instructions on replacing the door glass. I cannot imagine how they would omit it from the FTMV unless the task is considered direct support echelon level work
The procedure should be detailed in the organizational maintenance manual applicable to that particular vehicle. The TM numbers are typically listed on a data plate in the cab. Besides the glass you may need to replace the clips that attach the glass and track to the window lift itself. The TM...
Sometimes "free" will put you under water after you fix all the stuff that is broken. The Army's deep water fording ideas sees many items such as the vents on the master cylinder, crankcase, transmission etc piped into the air cleaner to keep water out.
Aattached are pics pf the vented glad...
Post 5 has the straight skinny. Don't make a move without the pubs: operators manual, organizational maintenance manual, parts book, lubrication order, all of which are in the TM section on this site. One of the data plates on the dashboard will list the TM numbers. A wrecker has about 100...
The service front glad hand on a 39 or 809 series truck is typically mounted on the hanger that supports the front of the right front fender. The air line runs down the frame rail and comes out to the fender support. This has a glad hand dummy connector on it which is vented to the atmosphere...
Look at moving parts in steering and 3ea fittings per drive shaft: 1ea on each u joint and 1ea on the slip joint. If it has a pintle hook there may be some there.
Along with all the welcome aboard posts here is one you can take to heart. Don't make a move without the pubs: operators' manual, organizational maintenance manual and parts book, and lubrication order. The relevant pubs are TMs 9-2320-260-10, 20, 20P, and 260 LO. There are about 40ea grease...
