Anyone know how much the back van-box doors weight?
I need to figure out a way to take them off to replace the back sheet metal and re-skin the narrower door. I dont have any equipment for something like this so I'm open to clever ideas on how to handle the doors once the hinges are unbolted...
well I got some items done in the last week. Took all the passenger side panels off and removed all the loose rust and painted POR15 rust converter on all the framing. I forgot to take a picture before putting the panels on but here are the corners:
Picked up the sheetmetal and put the 3...
thanks for looking out for me Ahab, The last thing I want to do is to put extra work into something only to find out I introduced a problem worse than the one I originally tried to fix. I did know of Galvanic corrosion and have read up as much as I can on how to prevent it in a reasonable...
well I have been working on the truck, although not too much... its hard to get motivated to do work that one hates. Thankfully, I found a better way to remove rivets that goes faster. Here are the tools I now use: A small grinder to cut a slit in the rivet head without damaging the sheetmetal...
I'm re-skinning my M109a3 box (currently .050" thick steel sides) and am going to aluminum. I'm told that the M146 trailers which look nearly identical to the 109 box's but longer, are already aluminum skinned. I'm trying to figure out what thickness the military used for the aluminum trailers...
We recently took a week long camping trip to Hayward Wisconsin and had a good time. On the way home while fueling up another deuce pulled up so we had a brief but fun chat.
Once we got home I had decided to fix a little rust that was starting to appear behind the rub-rail along the side of the...
Well Gerhard talked me into coming sometime, even if I dont take my deuce. Not sure that it will be this year, but I'll make it sooner than later. It was pretty funny meeting him and seeing a Uruguayan shed packed full of hard to find surplus American military truck parts.
Anyone from the MINNEAPOLIS / ST.PAUL area heading to IOLA and willing to bring back a smaller crate or pallet of M109 Box windows for me from ZIGGYO? Thanks, Peashooter
Thanks Ahab! Yes, I did make sure to get all the doors with the same key. The truck went from having zero locks, to having quite a few (doors, rear door, starter button disable, battery disconnect, misc paddle locks, now cargo doors).
Hey thanks! The door insignia is a greek lamda from the...
As has been the case over the last year or 2, I haven't been doing too much to the truck. Mostly trying to maintain it and finish little projects Ive started on it. Last year I bought some cargo doors off ebay. I got around to mounting them a few weeks ago and below shows some of the pictures...
I stopped getting updates on this thread so sorry for the late response. I'd be up for this Pete, sounds like a good time. Maybe something in the fall or next year even if people have their calendars booked up already?
Right, for this application grade 5 is more than enough. The weakest point of the wheel mounting would be the 6x, grade 8 studs that are 3/4". The adapter plates are held onto the wheel with 10x, 1" bolts! so you might as well go for whatever is cheaper.... which usually will be grade 5 but not...
EDIT:
Another rebuild seal kit is DORMAN part # TM351624
BOTH BRANDS have recently STOPPED MAKING these kits so you may want to try to find one soon to keep on hand.
good stuff! The parker hoses wont be DOT approved but thats probably not a concern in your case.
DOT approved stainless braided hoses have a plastic jacketing on them so dirt doesn't get in the braiding and wear away the inner teflon hose. All fittings are also permanently crimped/swaged on...
filters
I'm never near my truck when I think of ordering filters for it, so I'm posting the numbers on here. Basically its a reference for myself.
