Detroit lockers do not technically lock up in a turn. They drive the inside tire and allow the outside tire to over-run. They are locked together if the inside tire slips enough to catch up to the speed of the outside tire. Air lockers are locked when activated.
If you remove the selector valve and blow back to the tanks, whatever might be causing the problem will probably come back. If the problem debris was a single piece, then you would think you would only have problems while on that tank. It sounds like your problem is similar despite which tank is...
I wouldn't be so quick to scrap the chain idea. The springs and bogie are working in the direction originally designed when an axle is chained. But you effectively cut in half the spring rate. The static weight of the truck at that point is easy to handle with a chain. Hitting a bump will...
Chain-up brackets would be the cheapest way to go, and would be highly effective. I have however, debated (with myself) the possibility of using air bags to slightly unload one or the other of the rear axles. I have thought of doing this to reduce the bind while turning and to be able to tailor...
As someone else already said, singled tires can be run flat (on the rear) for some time with little issue (first hand experience). We also now know that the bottle jack experiment barely lifts the tire. How about not actually desiring to lift the tire, instead only wanting to remove enough...
A yard where I bought my 5 ton had a bunch of 5 tons for sale, all with dead batteries. They had good, charged batteries in the back of a golf cart with half of a slave cable. They had regular jumper cable gator clips on the other end. No problems starting the 5 tons with dead batteries.
G,
It may be awhile before I get to that as I have a pretty full next few days. I understand what you are getting at and I can do that to show you guys but...keep in mind that I am seeing this in person. Comparing the tire diameter from front to rear (not under the influence of weight), they...
What about a different size pump mounted on an electric motor. The pressure capability has to be the same or greater as existing but if the gpm is less, everything will just work slower. That does not seem like a biggie to effect an engine swap. The setup would just be tee'd/valved into the...
Not now but I can certainly take one (of each tire) when I get a chance. I was also thinking of jacking up the truck to measure circumference of both but it was too dark, too cold, too windy, too many other things to do, etc. I know that tire size vs. stated size varies some. Could it be there...
I put mine behind the seat inside the cab, kind of between the driver and passenger backrest. Easy to check through the gap between the seats, and easy to refill (without spilling). Used one of the existing (numerous) holes in the floorboard, just had to enlarge it a little.
I do not have pics or DB readings. I can get pics but it may take a while since it is dark when I get home from work. A pic of the muffler can be found here: http://www.summitracing.com/parts/wlk-24216/overview/
With all due respect, I am using an actual comparison of tires I have in my possession. I've got 14.00 x20 Goodyear AT2s on a 5 ton and I placed a 395 Michelin on an MRAP wheel (both tires have air pressure) next to it. Near identical height but difference in the width. Neither tire is new but...
