Several years back, my family and I were visiting the Alamo. On the way out, the ranger at the exit noticed the lockback knife pouch on my belt and told me "You do realize it is illegal to have that knife right." I said I did not and I appologized for having it in the Alamo. He said it was not...
The bendix should engage well past the back of the ring gear. Most engines will come to a stop in the exact same position a vast majority of the time. How it works is a mystery to me but I have years of experience that indicates that.
As long as one of the states is not Texas, what is the problem? I got my Deuce only half a state away but that was 600 miles.
My 5 ton (M927A1) was only three miles from my house. By the way, I told myself I would only need one when I decided to buy the deuce. Yeah...right!!!
If you replace the gear lube in the differentials, I suggest refilling to one knuckle down from the fill port. Others suggested this to me, just passing it on. Welcome, from El Paso.
Another problem the fifth wheel option has that needs a solution is most need access to the area that would normally be directly behind the tailgate of the towing truck. That is usually where a generator, batteries and propane tanks reside.
I'm thinking the fifth wheel route is somewhat troublesome. Between having the hitch part of the trailer over the cab and trying to stay under the legal height limit does not leave a lot of choice. there may be a fifth wheel model out there that would work but I think most would not. A slide in...
I thought 13'6" was the legal height limit. I am thinking about doing the same thing with an M927. I think I have about 8 feet to play with and stay under the 13.5' limit. I want to pull a deuce as a runabout. Thought about loading the deuce and pulling the travel trailer but that would take...
You can also think of cutting some of the spring under the seat to allow it to sit lower. Or you can change the location of the little angle that serves as a stop in the upward direction. Or you can replace the seat spring and shock with an air spring as others have done. Or you can install an...
If you think it is a PITA to drain the tanks with 11x20's, wait till you have 395's on there. I put in cable operated drains with the cables extended to outside of the frame just behind the left front mudflap. Really easy now and cheap to do. I have the remote reservior and can say that is a...
Well, if it is something new you want, why not select something from the 939 series. I just got an M927A1 two days ago. I love my deuce but that 5-ton is competely different. I had also considered the M35A3 but let's see: Cummins engine, check (big un too!!!); automatic tranny, check; power...
I would suggest automatically lowering to 12 psi (emergency) before trying 10 psi manually. It appears there are capabilities installed in the truck that have not been tried.
I'll try to be there for the luminaria walk again this year. I might even have an additional truck in my inventory by then. I know a new member on here that I am trying to convince to show up as well. Last year was a hoot.
Agreed, fine sand is mean stuff - and disagree, hopping usually means your front axle is not engaged. I hop plenty and know my front drive is working. Easy enough to check though.
I would suggest trying emergency drive mode on the CTIS for the hill (and only the hill). If that is not enough...
Nitro is really hard on conventional gasket materials such as head gaskets, intake manifold gaskets, etc. Just 5 - 10 percent nitro in a friend's three sand drag vehicles had us changing gaskets to copper. I would put it in small percentages in my lawn mower. Easier to fix and I don't like...
