The tape trick works to get the belt up onto the puilley in the right place. It does not ensure that you can get it properly tensioned. You may still have to turn the engine some to get the belt to walk up as Sandcobra suggests, allowing more tightening of the pulley.
I taped mine to the compressor half of the pulley with masking tape and then spun up the adjustable side. The tape wore off quickly once I started the engine.
You could quickly remove one of the front hubs (8 each, 1/2" bolts, 3/4"socket). That should unlock the front for sure without the need to even crawl under the thing. Try driving it in tight circles with the hub removed and see how she feels then. If better, then the air shift is not dis-engaging.
Cole Hersee (sp??) has a variety of keyed switches, some capable of 1000 amps intermittently (cranking). Those switches are usually available at truck and auto parts stores. BTW, if you by a general purpose ignition switch intended for the cars from the 50's and 60's, they will most probably be...
I second the gasser route as a posible replacement. I build Pontiacs that should have no trouble exceeding the torque capabilities of the Mf at the same RPM. The MF is a hoot to me but if I need to repower, I will be looking hard to this as an option.

X2 Lot's of fun. Cool that we were 1st in fundraising. Thanks to all that made this possible. Here's a pic of my deuce from Sunday morning, with the Ferrell and Powell camp inthe background. My cousin's kid is driving and a friend of his is along for the ride.
I believe it is possible with modified stock wheels. You need to widen the wheels (deepen the already deep-dish) by about 4-5 inches and flip the hubs.
I have the MVT's and to tell you the truth, I cannot here them from the driver's seat. I am sure everyone driving a deuce would be hard-rpressed to hear any tire noise over the regular deuce noise.
Texan here. I believe the inspection shop will require the LP light unless they happen to overlook it. However, drive at night near a DPS officer without it and IT WILL be noticed. (This is unless you get the Former Military Vehicle plate which you indicated you were not)
Me (Vick) and my wife Alicia, plus Dan and Sylvia Torres and family.
I will PM you more names if I get any more. You know, it seems to me there is no real need to boot the RV'ers, especially if the MV count may be on the low side. That may be worth mentioning to the Chamber of Commerce, if you...
I don't know how common old trucks are where you guys live but I have a heater that came out of my dad's old (1956) GMC. It is a compact unit requiring only the two holes in the firewall for the hose connections. It draws air from the footwell area and blows toward the tranny hump, or if you...
