No they were not used during the war.
If you want to have free hubs and still have the "correct" look get an extra set and have the splines machined out. I have have done the same with a deuce that spent most of it's time on road. Even gives you a little better gas mileage.
The 2- , means it was the second of two Battalions that made up the 108th. Also I think the 1 before the HQ41 is a roman numeral I which as Scar59 posted stands for infantry. The HQ41 also means that your MV was from the Headquarters of that battalion and 41 is where it falls in the march...
You can reinvent the wheel but our northern friends already made a nice one. http://www.steelsoldiers.com/showthread.php?101939-CDN-MLVW-Roof-Rack-M35-related
Another thing is depending on age, some of it may have been removed from the supply system as the items the parts went to are no longer use by the military. If you think they are for the 2.5 and 5T you can use the 34P manuals and look under "FEDERAL STOCK NUMBER AND REFERENCE NUMBER INDEX" in...

Yes you are actually talking about a M840, the 841 is just the front half. Max load 4.5T
No won't hook up to the FFSS Kitchen, they are built in an ISO 1C box, think you would need a M1022 max load 10T
No won't hook up to standard 20' container, they are called an ISO 1C 8x8x20, again a M1022...
That is so weird that the boss broke of two tanks, makes me wonder if it had happened to others and they haven't said anything about it. 500 miles is a long trip in a MV that you know and have serviced, it's too bad that your "shake down cruse" had so much shaking going on.
Now all we need...
There is an after market lowering link kit for them. One of the bikes that came out of the Corps had the front forks sticking 3" out of the triple tree to lower the ride and one of the surplus seat I got had all but a 1/2 inch of foam shaved off it. I suffer from a short inseam also and was...
