Thanks very much for that, exactly what I needed. I'm about done for the day but I'll have a go at checking/setting timing tomorrow.
Of course, the bit about just set the final timing so it doesn't quite detonate is I guess where it's at at the end of the day. My engine and the fuel of the day...
Oh, very nice, thanks very much for that. Of course thats what I'm used to but I didn't see any slot visible so I just assumed they had done something odd.
OK, so I know how to adjust the timing a bit and where to look for the mark now. Is this mark a static timing mark or is the engine...
Looks like no surgery or anything, just a month or so in a walking cast. Still not ideal.
OK, so I now have a working electronic ignition setup hooked up in 334. I hadn't started the vehicle for a couple weeks so some cranking was required but apart from that it started right up and seemed to...
Here we get into danger of getting a slap from moderators regarding political discussion, though I think there is a good argument for this being OK in the "politics on MV hobby" category.
I'll say that if you want an alternative to non-union shipping and to keep parts shipping feasible in...
I had a hood for my Datsun 1200 shipped from Greece and it only cost me about $100! It cost me more than that to ship a 5lb valence that was 5' long but only 6"x6" from CA to NY. International shipping does often have weird treaty stuff rolled into it, part of why you can buy something shipped...
This is so true. Of course if you think deuce parts shipping is expensive, I bought a Ferret recently and have been shipping parts in from all over the former British empire! The weird thing is sometimes the shipping is actually a lot less than shipping IN the US would have been!
I remember my M37 as having a synchronized gearbox. They were supposed to from 1951 onward.
I just used my M37 as shipped and actually didn't mind the gerabox at all so no first-hand knowledge of swaps. Here are some things I found though...
The M37B1 transmission is liked better than the...
I made a busbar gauge and set all the busbar heights so now my bands are theoretically adjusted correctly.
I do notice the GCP height is a lot more uniform in more gears. Below is the target dimension and where my bands were before adjustment. FWIW gears 2-5 seemed to work OK before...
I had a productive weekend with the Ferret. Turns out I'd not done a good job of centering the shoes on the back brakes before adjusting them so as soon as I used the brakes a couple times had WAY too much slack in the system. After careful adjustment with a friend pumping the brakes after...
If you drive around in an F-cab in winter VS. a deuce cab, it's apparent why you might like the F-cab pretty darn quick. It's not drafty, won't leak, the heater will actually keep you warm, and you have wipers that work.
Easier to fit a built crew-cab than extend a deuce cab too.
I love the...
I suppose I generally agree the LDT isn't the best thing to swap into anything unless you just *have* to have a multifuel.
If you have a F600 and want a swap, why not go grab a 7.8 New Holland. Ford used them later in the F600 lifecycle, just before going to Cummins so the swap should be...
See, I'm lucky. Since I have so many things missing it would be pretty simple to pull my fuel tank. :-\
In seriousness, I'll be interested to see if acetone does the job. I guess a lot of MV owners go the outboard-motor gas tank route and I admit that it is tempting to not have to worry about...
Indeed, I've read it's a common problem of people using it like a clutch and I'm sure that's why 1st is tired. I admit that I struggled with that impulse mightily and I'm sure I contributed to that wear in 1st some myself. Is the motor is running better and I trust it more it's becoming...
Thanks. For now I just stole some from my CVR(T). Looks like I should have brake lights as soon as I hook the switch back up.
The motor is now running well, I do have a bit of transmission trouble I'm afraid though. Low gear sort of works on very flat ground and lower speeds. If I encounter...
I went through the carburetor with a fine-tooth comb... well, little nozzle on a blow gun and some solvent really. I got it all back together and didn't even manage to loose the little glass balls. Still was having no joy once it went back on. I'd read that sometimes a fuel problem on these...
I got the inner part back in OK, but think I might have the outer plate reversed.
I didn't take it completely apart, just enough to clear out the passages. I guess I'll go deeper and do a full teardown.
