Was looking for a shop in or near Milwaukee to work on M1008; then did it all myself!

im taking a look at it right now, and I know I can do it but looks like a pita. The coolant was inspected in 2009 and is tagged that it was in good shape. What do you think? Is it possible to change the gaskets without draining the system?

Got it! I’ll go pick up two more of those gaskets in a bit and drain the coolant. Can you please give me a run down on the procedure to drain the radiator? I don’t wanna mess anything up. Thanks!

I will do all these things for sure. Are the rear coolant passages a different gasket than the 35357? If so, would you happen to know what the part number for those are? And also the vacuum gasket? I did get some new intake gaskets in my gasket kit I already have, I posted a picture of it...

Well there's a storm coming, so I covered her up for the night. Some goodies came in today, too! I know I probably didn't need that new vacuum diaphragm but I thought it would be a good idea to just swap it out with a brand new unit.

Nice, that will be my reading for tonight when I get home. I was able to put those numbers on the picture with my phone and it only took a minute so there was not much time lost LOL. I'm new to this but I'm just trying to be extra thorough :D Thanks so much

Was looking for a shop in or near Milwaukee to work on M1008; then did it all myself!

I went ahead and made a diagram of the orientation of the fuel lines to the IP and removed them. I also removed the throttle cable bracket and noticed that the two screws are different. One has a flanged head and the other has a washer. Is that how it's supposed to be or should I source some...

Was looking for a shop in or near Milwaukee to work on M1008; then did it all myself!

GREAT NEWS! The plunger and spring were on the ground right in front of the bumper LOL. I guess I was so excited pulling the IP out that I didn't even notice it fall to the ground. Thank goodness--that was keeping me up last night. I got the IP and the fuel lines degreased so I'm not making...

I pulled it out as is in the pics... I was kinda looking at all the fuel lines while wrestling it towards the firewall to clear the studs and be able to lift it out. I sure hope those things didn't fall inside the motor.... Would that even be possible?

Was looking for a shop in or near Milwaukee to work on M1008; then did it all myself!

Well.... I did it man. I got that spider out :D It was a PITA especially since I didn't have anyone to help guide the rear right side fuel lines out through that jungle of wiring right there, but I got her done. The pump actually does have a mark it was just so dirty that it was hidden. I...

Alright great. Hopefully the new pump has a mark on it. I will def replace coolant gaskets. Do you by any chance have the NAPA P# for those? I also want to clean the motor up a little too. I will be careful not to let any dirt or grime inside. But for now I will work on removing the IP and...

Was looking for a shop in or near Milwaukee to work on M1008; then did it all myself!

Ok, I've got all the nozzle nuts loosened--luckily they weren't too tight and I was able to just use a 19mm open end wrench. Removed all the 7mm screws holding the fuel lines to the rocker covers. I removed the oil filler spout and grommet. Just a few questions before going forward. I see the...

I do have a newer silverado back at home that is my daily driver. I also have another CUCV 1008 back at home that has some engine ticking (I made a post about it) but haven't been able to troubleshoot it yet. I do have a new set of injectors for that truck when I go back to CA--im hoping that...

Was looking for a shop in or near Milwaukee to work on M1008; then did it all myself!

Well.. looks like I'm doing this. I got the intake manifold off and now I'm at the pump. @cucvrus Thanks for pushing me! I can really use some of your advice going forward with this. I don't have the new pump yet, but it would be nice to take this one off so I can drop it off and avoid...

Was looking for a shop in or near Milwaukee to work on M1008; then did it all myself!

Wow that bed looks great on there! I was told it would be around $2200 per axle to change gears. The shop with the outrageous pricing is the one who gave me that figure, so I don't know if that's just their price as opposed to the going rate. How much do you think it should cost to swap...

Was looking for a shop in or near Milwaukee to work on M1008; then did it all myself!

Thanks for responding. Sounds like I need an OD transmission and now I just need to decide which route to go for that. My intended use on this truck is to get it mechanically sound so I can cruise it around and have fun with it. I do want to get it back home to California, but TBH I've been...

Was looking for a shop in or near Milwaukee to work on M1008; then did it all myself!

Thanks for responding. Your truck looks awesome! I would've trailered it home originally if I could've. The only problem is I don't have a trailer that's fit to tow a 6000lb vehicle. I'm going to start off by getting the IP and flexplate fixed so it can at least be driven around Wisconsin...

Was looking for a shop in or near Milwaukee to work on M1008; then did it all myself!

Thanks for your input. Two reasons I was thinking to go with a lift/bigger tires is because I was told (by the more expensive shop) that I would be looking at around $2200 per axle to have them re-geared to 4.10 or 3.73 because of the labor involved in changing the carriers. That just totally...

Honestly man, thanks so much. You're a very nice person and I appreciate your willingness to help me out. Another issue with me taking on this job is also that I am at my brothers house and I'm trying not to upset him or his wife by taking on a big job in his driveway. Probably wouldn't care...

Was looking for a shop in or near Milwaukee to work on M1008; then did it all myself!

Well I contacted one of the more reputable shops for cucvs and they quoted me $1800 just to install the IP and injectors.. I knew it wouldn’t be cheap but that seems a little excessive. If that’s the going rate I’m probably gonna have to just man up and go for it myself. Still sleeping on what...
