Well, it doesn't seem like I've gotten much done since last time, but apparently I have. The axles and brakes are all rebuilt, and the frame is painted.
Using 3M's paintable aerosol undercoat, I sprayed the underside of the tub. Good stuff, but this took all three cans and still wasn't that...
Glad I’m not the only one who decided to do this! The electrical tape on the windshield is a neat trick, I might have to try that myself. I would have welded in a NATO plug but couldn’t find the little bowl that’s welded in, and I wasn’t going to cut one out of an original tub. As far as the...
Work continues while the body is back at the blaster... I'm not looking forward to getting it back since I know there are dents and bowed panels I won't be able to fix, be hey, it's a trail Jeep.
Anyway, I have the fuel filler neck and flange welded up and ready to send to the radiator shop for...
Well it's been quite some time since my last post here, I haven't made a ton of progress but things are moving along. I got my 225 V6 back from the machine shop and painted it with hi-heat engine primer and the spray cans of TM-9 24087. Hopefully that will keep the paint from peeling off...
Well, having primed, sanded and painted 5 wheels, I never want to paint wheels ever again. I still have to do some touch up with a brush since the spray gun couldn't reach into the small slots.
The TM9 paint has impressed me so far, it's a bit thick when spraying but it levels itself nicely...
Hello everyone,
Heres a quick update on the project:
I've gotten most of the fabrication done on the frame (motor mounts, boxing, removing old welds), and it will be green soon.
I just got the wheels back from the sandblaster and primed them along with the floor cover.
When I went to pick...
Mine was civilian, so it had turn signals under the headlights. When I got the M38A1 grille, I decided to do what I did and convert some blackout lights. I'm going to use the military turn signal switch (Which will work with 12 volts) and try to use a regular automotive flasher unit. I'm...
I figured I'd start with something small that I assume someone has wanted to do. I bought some new front blackout marker lights to use as turn signals, here is the conversion.
Starting with removing the housing cover, I removed the 24 volt bulb and replaced it with a NAPA 97NAN 12 volt amber...
Hey everyone,
I'm using a '66 CJ-5 that I had intended to flip as a base for an M38A1 "tribute", as a friend gave me an A1 grille for it. It'll be a wheeling rig for me, and if it gets smashed up, I't will just be a CJ in reality. That said, I'm doing almost everything I can to make it a...
So Bill, since I can't get xylene or naptha, should I use Martin Senour hardener and their reducer and spray over what I have? Do you think I need to sand off all the paint I have already sprayed? Thanks again, Peter
Hello again all, I'm midway through painting my M35 the Gillespie 24087 that I got from Rapco. They said to reduce it using xylene (I'm using mineral spirits because California is, well... you know.) That said, Rapco said not to put any hardener in the paint because it will darken the color. I...
I don't mean to pry but when should I expect a response for my truck? Not being impatient, but an estimate of how long it might take seems like a good note to add to the first page so that we know how long it normally takes. Thanks again!
Here's my truck, anything helps!

We all appreciate this...
The 24087 OD Green is the one I thought was too brown. I might just end up painting it that, and just getting over it but would it be acceptable to paint it the 24052 USMC Forest Green? I'm struggling with the 1966- rebuilt in 1983 thing and what would be accurate vs good looking, and the 4...
Hello all, first thing you should know is that I am partially colorblind, especially toward green and brown. That said, I need help identifying these colors from my truck. I keep looking for a good color for my truck (going for Vietnam era, she's a 1966) but all I get is an OD Green that just...
Strange considering I thought both of those Titan tires were the newest of the batch, I guess I'll run all the 1999/2000 ones on the back, get rid of the armstrongs from 1989 and buy two new fronts from Coker... Unless anyone knows where to get them less than $320 apiece
Here are three codes from tires I just bought, the one that says MILITARY is the one I am confused with. The other two seem to be from 2000 and 1999 (judging by the triangle). Is it safe to run these? Not many cracks at all, and they would look better than the silly road tires on it now...
I'm not sure if I should be posting a new thread or not, but I was confused so here goes. I read that the DOT date codes go to 14 characters after 2000. I have a Titan tire which has a 14 digit code, but if what I read is right (week/week/year/year) my tire is from 1987... That doesn't make...
