What have you done to your 5 ton this week?

Did you check your pickup tube? Had the same problem with mine turned out the pickup tube was steel and had rotted out.

What have you done to your 5 ton this week?

Rebuilt the Primer Pump on my M813 and eliminated another possible source of air into the fuel. The O-rings were shot, wasn't pumping and there was no vacuum. Then during disassembly, I compounded the problem by crushing the cylinder tube with a pair of vice grips, take care disassembling, the...

What have you done to your 5 ton this week?

Agreed on the ride, just one test drive of my 813 had me hooked. They're also easy to wrench on. The engine bay isn't chockablock full of parts, everything is reachable and the mechanics are straight forward, in a Frankenstein's monster sort of way...just BIG! So far I haven't had any major...

What have you done to your 5 ton this week?

One of the previous caretakers of my rig put this pressure relief valve in. Just a tug on the cable and the tank drains then shuts off automatically.

    Steel Pickup tubes

So what's the common denominator on steel tubes? So far it's just 5-tons from the 1970's to 2002 (if I'm reading TomTime's post correctly) Does this mean all 5-ton's have steel tubes?

What have you done to your 5 ton this week?

Installed a new fuel gauge after testing the sender wire from the tank for a short. Although I don't know the ohms rating for the sender, found a setting on my meter that showed a signal from the sender and demonstrated a difference in readings with my weight on and off the truck. Replaced the...

    Steel Pickup tubes

I'm curious, my 1976 M813 had a steel pickup tube in the fuel tank. Mike Virili at Big Mike's motorpool thought it was "kind of odd to me that steel was used...Most of this stuff would have been copper in the fuel tanks, but it could have been changed out by someone who used what they had to...

What have you done to your 5 ton this week?

Replaced the fuel sender this week with mixed results. I was able to save the old gasket and all but one bolt came out without having to drill, although I did replce the bolts. There was definitely a lot missing on the old unit. At first the gauge worked but as soon as I climbed aboard...

    m35a3 adding reverse lights

Couldn't find a reversing light circuit in my 5-Ton TM's, so I rigged a momentary switch into an old metal housing and screwed it to the floor in position so the shift column would engage the switch in reverse. This is plugged into a 12V circuit that runs the length of my M813 to 4 LED lights...

What have you done to your 5 ton this week?

Been experiencing electrical issues with the turn signals. At first contact cleaner cleared it up, but the problem persisted. Found that pin "C" was either cut or broken. This is for the Left Rear Directional. There was no sign of the broken stub, but fortunately there was enough extra pin...
