I have to check the front brake cylinders and brake shoes. Is it possible to remove the front brake drum without the hub or do you always take of the entire hub as per TM ..20? Sounds like overkill to me because you start messing with the bearing automatically, which I always try to avoid. I...
Trying to find Dot 5 braking fluid here in the Czech Republic, a few brands but all different from what I used in the Netherlands and these are not common brand names in continental Europe. Is there any quality difference between the different brands or is it 6 of the one and half dozen of the...
Read through several of the "which paint number" threads and read part of David Doyle's section on markings and paints. The only thing I now know is that I am not the only one guessing and confused.
:lost:
Our M51A2 was presumably built in 1973, right in the period "early seventies" when...
Starting again to get my steering in order. In short, left turn is without problem, right turn needs two persons to haul the steering wheel around. Hydraulic oil according TMs and recommendations here replaced and should be without air. Adjusting nut tightened to get rid of free play; worked...
Let me open the new sub-forum with a line on this Dutch truck builder with some amazing achievements through the 20th century including some world-class trucks, the first and only factory car that drives as quick backwards as it drives forward. Last but definitely not least: an impressive record...
Yes I did search and yes, the question surely has been asked million times. With all the oversize single threads and the deuce and 9xx series dominating, I could not find a good thread on it. So here goes.
This is Tatra land here and I get can new surplus army tires 12.00x20 for about $ 120...
Reducing the noise level somewhat on our M51A2 multifuel would be nice, and I was wondering if anybody ever did something with it.
I saw some threads on noise levels for 5-ton trucks, but most stories go about the 8xx and 9xx series. Also an interesting revived thread for the the Deuce...
I ran into some nice material on the Dutch DAF MVs including armored material.
So where to post. The non-US MV forum has seven sub-fora:
- four on German stuff,
- one on Volvo,
- one on everything east-block
- one on Tatra.
I am sorry (and stubborn) but as Dutchman I am not going to post...
Title says it all. The prices for different lots (also 817s) were a lot less. Now I just learned on internet that M817s are for sale for even much higher prices. But those are checked and repaired-restored trucks in good condition, not unknowns from GL. According the Gl description: Batteries...
Probably there is a thread about this already. Whatever, can somebody explain this naive European why the US govenrnement consider well over 100 surplus trucks as scrap and demands they be destroyed before removing? Is this a hidden form of demill actions to prevent the trucks from falling into...
OK small problem here.
Is it possible to remove the dump bed from an M51A2 without a functional hydraulic pump?
Background: we had the dump bed including subframe and hydraylics removed for working on the truck, then put it back for transport. The idea was that once on its final location, we...
Last time two years ago I simply drained (no flushing or cleaning) the engine and radiator and refilled our multifuel with Eurol Coolant -36 XL, suitable for heavy duty trucks. Now I need to top up with about 5 liter (somewhere I have a leak) but cannot get this stuff here in the Czech Republic...
Trying to make the truck winter ready again since temps are on average much lower here in the Czech Republic as in the Netherlands.
The instructions in the manual mention "refer to TB 750-651 (found) and TM 9-207 (still missing)for further instructions". I tried to look for those manuals but...
I did not drive much with our truck, but am loosing some liters of water. Was topped up before the last winter, after some driving and standing with running engine -together about 3 hours, low rpm, no pulling or cargo on the truck, even without dump bed. Noticed again that the level is lower, at...
While shooting pics and video during a fish harvest of one of the fish ponds around here, I noticed this kitchen trailer. made some pics to share here. Actually, would not mind having one.:beer:
We are now starting to upload some videos about our project of restoring the M51A2. Tonight only the first video, tomorrow and later more to come.
The video's are not on youtube but on our own website; I like to keep our material private and under our control. Feel free to give comment on...
When I try the member map, I see it fill up and then goes out and the following message appears
Something on SS side or should I change any settings in my browsers?
Each forum or sub-forum has the option "search this forum" down to "search this thread". Would it be possible to make the search function also active inside your user CP in the subscription threads? I am trying to find some of my own posts there and end up running through several pages of...
Title says it all, more or less. Does a 1:24 scale model of a M51A2 exists? Preferably with moving dump bed?
Yes I did try search but nothing came up apart from this M51 recovery vehicle, which is a tracked vehicle.
