That is an awful lot of power to put through such a small block and a LOT of heat to dissipate on such an old design. Reliability is likely to suffer. I'd watch those EGTs like a hawk. I'd go with a bigger block to run that HP and TQ regularly. Maybe a newer technology Cummins or something like...
Still love my 3116. Not concerned about winning a race, just enjoying the ride...
Oh hey, it's cold outside. Better get a blanket for the little CAT to keep her warm : )
I felt that this article was very interesting and relevant to the 3116, 3126, and C7: https://thecampingadvisor.com/is-the-cat-c7-a-good-engine-problems/
Ok, you are certainly entitled to your opinions on these trucks. The alternator to me is an issue, but a fairly minor one since it can be replaced with an upgraded one or an aftermarket. This was an engine discussion. Please share your sources for ECMs, programming etc, so the others may get...
The discussion was 3116 vs 3126, not AO vs A1 etc.
"ECM failures are absurdly rare" ????? I concur with Ronmar.
How did you get CAT to flash another ECM with the same serial number, miles /hours etc?
Engine ECMs and Trans ECMs are two different subjects.
A healthy and respectful debate is a good thing, when people's intent is gaining knowledge. I will explain my Modus Operandi for choosing the 3116.
First, there is no doubt that the 3126 and C7 are more powerful than the 3116. In my opinion, "intended use" is the most important factor...
I did one recently. Wasn't too bad, but have done 7 in past. Here are my recommendations for this:
1. Call your orthopedist first
2. Use a bead breaker from Amazon
3. Never let tires fall flat on ground, if can be avoided. You can hurt your back badly if you have to pick it up.
4. Do it on a...
I agree. It would not be hard to do this with a weather-proof box. Speaking of inexpensive work-arounds, like the penny collection I started in the old farm house fuse box. Who needs fuses, when a penny will suffice? Old Abe trickrofl
If you have trouble applying the discount code, make sure you select home shipping and possibly use another browser. I had an issue on my second order. Call NAPA online if you have issues. I have no financial relationship with NAPA.
I concur with Awesomeness. ASAP replace the oil line of death and get your driveshafts balanced. Removing "OSU Football bumper stickers" will improve your overall diesel mileage, as it us always "Up Hill" for OSU :ROFLMAO: Even if your driveshafts have a "D" on them, get it done next week. Tell...
It is actually just a Harbor Freight, but I painted it green, so it is now military grade :ROFLMAO:
Sadly, they do not sell this 18,000 lbs one anymore.
Here is a piece of a advice for a new M1088 owner. Not many FMTV owners know this, but the cab has a built in Pez dispenser. To use this hidden feature, leave a 20# or so tool in the cab (jacks work exceptionally well) near the back is preferred, then raise the cab. The cab will dispense your...
I was in a Vets Parade today. I have noticed that my Ali likes to shift at higher RPMs than I would typically expect. It shifts like a GM turbo 350 tranny with a shift kit. A bit stubborn this morning with frost on Ye pumpkin. Anyone have problems with their TPS causing delayed shifts? Maybe...
