As anyone who looked at my Mighty Mite work thread now knows, in the wee hours when indoors because it is too dark to go play with real trucks, I often create photo notes to help me decide on, and keep track of, desired changes. I also do this in case I suddenly vapour lock, then perhaps my...
The Marines used all the types in the M715 series. M725s were used as ambulances and as radio trucks (without the red crosses, of course!). I saw them all on Camp Pendleton c.1979-1981, and in Norway in 1980.
The Seabees were still using a few M726s then too, and I saw one M715 used by USN...
Back in November when I went to look at my Mighty Mite, I also ended up buying an M715 from the same chap.
It is a significantly modified truck, and had a known bad 350 V8 in it. That said, it also looked a lot like one I had seen pictures of and admired for many years (picture 1 attached), so...
To really confuse things - it could have been USMC and then Army. :p
The cut off paperclips on the front bumper are definitely USMC, however in the early to mid 1980s the Marines gave up their deuces to the Army in favour of all-5ton fleet (for medium tactical transport). One of the few...
The stars finally aligned sufficiently to get a gap in Jason/DrJay's schedule to work on the Mite in his shop again. Since there is a yellow Camaro sitting in the spot formerly occupied for so long by the Mite, it couldn't just sit and wait for an opportune moment to be worked on between...
At least one (the one next to the green trailer, with the tow bar attached in the picture) is an A5 because it has front-only steering.
The shorty Scout pickup is cool too. I've always had a soft spot for those. :)
Cheers
I've not seen Packard Ys that were other than female all around, a female to two males would sure be handy for splitting light wires.
I use what are called Bulkhead Connectors to connect females together. There are several places to get them, I get mine from Erik's...
I'd say start with the pedal itself, I've since heard that the hinge point sticking is fairly common on the 939 series because of the spray liner on the floor of these trucks. Mine got sticky, as in was slow to return or had to be pushed back up with a boot toe, then froze solid one day. Since...
One thing to keep in mind with both truck and trailer batwings -carefully check the top hinge before you try opening the sides! The hinge (on every one I have seen) is rubber, conveyor-belt type material. That stuff degrades over time and comes apart, so if you unlatch the sides and that stuff...
Parts of the fuel tank that show through the hatches when open were primed, then painted 34052. I really should have thought to do this before installing the tank in the Mite, it was a pain to paint in situ! At least I wasn't doing a readily visible finish, it will only be visible through the...
In the immortal words of MacArthur - "I have returned!"
Or, in my best squeaky psycho voice - "I'm baaaaack..."
The ashes of my lifelong friend Peter have been consigned to the rocks and sea of the island of Inishbofin (off the Irish west coast), where we spent holidays since we were children...
They could be Mighty Mite wheels, they are interchangeable bolt pattern and size wise. Mites had magnesium wheels for light weight.
The M416B1 was the specified trailer for the Mite, but I don't know enough about the history of them to say whether they always had magnesium wheels.
Cheers
Good grief, y'all definitely don't make it easy to pick one!!
Not in the running, but that red Mercedes could inspire more than a little bit of jealousy.

Here are the pictures - a stripped out regular incandescent bucket on the left, LED type on the right. These are both metal, but the plastic ones are pretty much identical.
Most of the LED buckets have a slightly bigger wire hole in the back to get the Packard connectors through.
Cheers
The nomenclature can be confusing as folks tend to use the terms "housing" and "bucket" interchangeably.
("I plead guilty, your honour, and throw myself on the mercies of the court. I have amended my ways and will sin no more. Well, I'll try anyway..")
In the M1102 manual at least, and to...
During the week, I got the holes drilled and the locks installed in the fuel tank cover and put a second coat of primer on it.
Note my custom coon-trap paint stand.
I managed to get all the locks oriented the same way, key goes in the same way (teeth to the back) on all, and all turn clockwise...
Mr. Bensinger did have the brake parts I needed, bless his soul (he has lot of Mite stuff), so now I'm waiting for them to be delivered. In the meantime, rather than just twiddling my thumbs, some busy work...
There are two bolts that go through the windshield which appear to be for mounting...
We really should post a master list of situationally appropriate phrases, under select categories. But probably with a password or Parental Guidance button to prevent inadvertent access by the wee folk or those tender of emotion.
