Who has reused a MEP generator engine for other equipement?

I'd suggest two pulleys and a V-belt that would offer some shock absorption, though they make some close coupled chain systems for double the speed. I get the idea of using what you have, but if you do not need a low speed diesel, there are a fair few alternative engines in the small engine...

Am I a victim of foul play or incompetence? LOL.

Yup, I have one of those, too. I like it a lot for filters on some modern vehicles that seem to require magic wands because the clearance is so tight. Like @Guyfang, I have a whole collection of filter wrenches. These days, for stubborn filters, my go to is the chain wrench. No fuss, no bother...

Am I a victim of foul play or incompetence? LOL.

I think that even when filters are oiled, some filters just seem to be complete pains, like the 803 fuel-water filter, especially an 803 filter that has been on for a decade or more. I have a suction filter on a non-generator hydraulic unit that gets changed every two days (50hrs) of use, so...

802a on trailer. How much does it walk?

There are clamp on chocks if you are really concerned. Personally, I usually use double chocks on each wheel. https://www.amazon.com/Zone-Tech-Security-Tire-Clamp/dp/B07G3G41XQ

I knew that there was an explanation for the uptime of the grid power now! 🤣

    MEP-802a Parts Question

@tlw and it is worth adding the MOV protection as well in my opinion. All the best, 2Pbfeet

MEP-002A No Power To Control Panel

Sounds like you did quite the research, and I compliment you on scoring some real deals on your filters. I agree that there is such a thing as too fine. I think that diesel fuel has changed a bit since the '80s, but it still gels up when it is cold enough and Wisconsin gets more than cold...

NSN's for Door & handle for a MEP 802A generator

@LuckeyD Many thanks for the hard earned and hard learned pearls of wisdom. It sounds like you helped keep the wheels on the bus when it really counted. Thanks. Some of us are trying to keep our two grey cells running by learning new things, and I definitely appreciate wisdom from those who...

MEP-002A No Power To Control Panel

FRAM specifies that as a diesel fuel/water separator used on more than a few engines. If the shoe fits... Great deal from Farm & Fleet! I wish we had one locally. All the best, 2Pbfeet

First real run- MEP-802a Power Plant Trailer

@Powerlinefixer the exhaust looks fine to me, too. You might want to to the retaining screw on the AM-VM switch before it takes a walk. It is rattling loose in the video. All the best, 2Pbfeet

    J R Hollingsworth MEP-005A conversion

I am sure that your dad has lots of experience. No shade on him intended. Startup loads for heat pumps and well pumps vary considerably in my experience. E.g. a neighbor has a 700' deep well, and another has 4T 40 year old AC with 129A starting current. I think that the devil is in the details...

    Choosing a Generator

I was just concerned by your post #67 above. https://www.steelsoldiers.com/threads/choosing-a-generator.209804/post-2462044 1800 works well for diesels, less so for most gasoline engines, but there are models around, e.g...

    Choosing a Generator

I'm glad that you were able to turn the generator around so quickly and profitably! If you are moving it out your backyard, you will probably want fairly large (wide) tires, but 100 gallons (800lbs) of fuel, plus tank, and an MEP-803A and you are looking a 2,000lbs+, plus the weight of the...

    Choosing a Generator

Yes, I agree that parting it out should easily recoup the acquisition costs. Those are fairly common units, and they get a fair amount of abuse in their typical mounting in the back of trucks, so there's a demand for parts. I think that offshore rigs are amongst some of the harshest...

    MEP-803 Deoxit

Let's just say I think that the enclosure covers are not exactly precision parts, nor do they need to be, plus a) it is thin aluminum, b) it probably has been heat cycled a few times, c) it has probably been apart more than once, might not have been pulled off uniformly, and it is pretty easy...

    MEP-803 Deoxit

@southern79 FWIW: I bought a lifetime supply (for me) of new caged nuts from a computer maker that was downsizing. They are often used on computer racks, but I would just make sure the threads are correct, as there are metric as well as SAE versions. I use rivet nuts when I am sure that there...
