Excuse my ignorance, but what are the advantages to removing run flats? I probably won't stick with run flats when my tires wear out, but why go to the trouble to remove them?
Besides the run flat ability, they also increase the stiffness of the sidewall which helps in cornering.
Yeah, I'm really pleased with the condition. Some of these get auctioned without 4 doors, so that was a plus even if one is tan. It was actually a non-runner so it went cheap. But once some fuel went in, it started right up. Still checking it out to see about the rest.
Yep. The R stands for Recapitalization. If you're not familiar with this program, here's a brochure. I know that it originally would've been an earlier model year, but officially it's legally now a 2007.
Found some paperwork in the cab from 1991, but I haven't looked too closely at it yet.
I just bought a 2007 M1097R1. I also own a 1971 M35A2, that I've had for 6 years.
I'm not shy about asking questions, even if they sound dumb. If you don't like people that are newbies you're probably gonna want to avoid my threads.
In the short term, I have to replace the fuel tank -...
As soon as my build is done, I plan on putting some ridiculous price on it, like $200k. Not that I'm interested in selling, but every man's got a price and if someone wants to pay that kind of money, I'd be happy to sell.
Then I could buy a 7 ton and start over!
Sound insulation can knock that sound down quite handily. I knocked 40 db off when I put sound insulation in the cab of my deuce.
And twice that number for shipping.
This would be handled through the WA Dept. of Revenue. People buy big ticket items all the time in OR to avoid sales tax and bring them back to WA. If it's something like a boat or vehicle there's a good chance you'll get busted so there's a provision to pay the sales tax through Revenue.

The drain is in the corner of the pan. And there is a side to the pan. Another hole could be drilled for drainage, couldn't it, if necessary? Water still flows downhill, doesn't it?
So, I'm putting a Red Dot system in my truck for a/c and heat, specifically their 2300 model which is designed for off-road applications. The manual states that the unit is supposed to be mounted "flat" somewhere, on the ceiling, floor, whatever. Thing is, space is getting a little tight in my...
Another option would be to put in an electric pump on the fuel line, before the fuel injection pump. It's like a $35 part, wire it to your power switch.
I'm pretty committed to my tires. They're 11r24.5 and can be sourced far more easily than military tires. Plus duallies gives me some other options when traveling vs super singles. If you're interested, you can read about my journey to commercial tires at this link.
The extra fuel capacity...
The truck is being worked on by a friend-mechanic on a part-time basis (I have a number of threads on here about my progress). I'm 1-2 years out. When it's done, I'm gonna park it in my driveway and try to live in it for a month with my cat & dog to see if they can acclimatize to the space...
Yes, I'm aware of this. What would it take to change that 2.5 into a 3 or a 3.5?
What am I carrying? I'm building a custom camper which I expect to come in around 1500 - 2000 lbs but then I have 4 fuel tanks with a combined 200 gallons and about 65 gallons of water tanks. Add various...
Is there a way to increase the capacity of the deuce, say to 3 or 3.5 ton without spending a fortune? Would custom built springs make enough difference, for instance?
I'm pretty far along and committed to all the changes I've made in my deuce so moving to a 5 ton is not an option.
Could look into another military seat. Many of them have a piston shock - most of the old seats need a new one installed. I guess it depends on how much comfort you're looking for.
There was so much that just wasn't mentioned in the thread, all the little issues that cropped up and the solutions that were found. Some of those are as follows, some are just too numerous to remember.
Looking back over this thread, I never mentioned that the oil pan was pulled from another 6...
When I got mine, 2016, it had stock sized tires and I could hit and drive at 55 for hours. I drove it back from where I got it, 1k miles over 3 days. When I moved to super singles the top speed went up to over 60, but I usually kep the speed at 60. My biggest problem then was handling but...
