If you want to stay with the 25A, there is a way to wire it.

That's the easy way, change to 60A altenator, are you still running the in-tank fuel pump? will have to add some wire extensions for the b/o lights, if I remember correctly. If you still have vacuum wipers in the A1, you can use the A2 wiper wiring to run a circuit for the in-tank pump.

I would drain the oil and look for any evidence of metal, if you have access to a scope, you could look in the cylinders and oil pan.
