I found one stash (7 each) of the A1 lug bolts. I know I have more. Just have to find them again...
here’s what I’ve got so far, assuming that these are the A1 lug nuts.
I was inspecting the wiper motors and there’s was what appeared to be some kind of insulation surrounding the driver side motor. I pulled on a piece and a bit of animal fur was attached. So, off with the entire panel. There was a nest, not sure what type of critter made it. Included in the nest...
Videos like that make me miss the good old days. I worked on UH-1N’s primarily but have some time working on the H model and F model. I also worked on H-3’s, H-53’s and H-60’s. Then Hiller’s were good birds. They were primarily an Army aircraft. I served in the Marine Corps and Air Force. If I...
ABDR is Aircraft Battle Damage Repair. It’s a formal school they send aviation mechanics to in order to train them in fixing battle damaged stuff with bailing wire and tin cans and with whatever materials are available. They fix flight control tubes with tin cans, as well as holes in the...
. Sabotage is possible. Another possibility is the cylinder had to be isolated due to something or another. Best way to isolate is using the tapered river of the correct size. I’ve never seen it used on trucks but it’s an ABDR fix for hydraulic systems when isolating non flight essential...

The shelter was part of the Pershing 1a missile system. None of the wiring remains however, all the canon plug connectors are still there. There was some type of air conditioning inside but it’s long gone. I’m using it for project storage. My favorite part is the launcher. Here some pics:
I have a missile support shelter. I’m going to have to dig out the info on it again. It’s still about 50% outfitted as it was originally, minus all the black boxes but one.
Got some catching up to do. Been sand blasting many parts. Also got the driver side door hinges out. With the rust on the pillars, I want to disassemble as much as possible to look for any other damage. The lower hinge was a bear. I broke an easy out and had to use a Dremel tool to dig it out...
More parts cleaning. Sand blaster cabinet is getting a good workout. The portable sand blaster I bought from Sears about 25-30 years ago is finally proving its value as well. The sand blast media I got from Menard’s is good stuff (thanks Jim!). No pictures tonight. Hopefully I’ll have some next...
. Before this week I’d be confused by the foam comment. The kids told me what they were talking about. I said that was what happened to me at a surplus store... crickets...
My daughter and son-in-law volunteer at the depot museum every week. They got up front views of the whole shebang. I think they “live streamed” the whole event. Not sure what live streaming is but they had a great time.
Between the snow, migraines and extensive honey do list, I got very little done this week. I did get more sand blasting done. I prepped a bunch of parts for primering. I’ll just keep plugging along... found some pretty disgusting rust on the pillars. I’ll post better pics and show the before and...
Still plugging away at the sandblaster. Getting the parts cleaned up then primered and ready to reinstall. Nothing new to photo. It’ll be a couple days before I can get back to the truck. Spring brings out the honey-do list.
More sandblasting completed. Got the battery mount cleaned as well as the fire extinguisher mount. And finall, the rear axle bumpers. All ready for paint. Pics: note, I’ll add the battery mounts later. Forgot to take the after sandblasting pictures.
Update: posted the cleaned up battery mount...
Update as of yesterday: finished stripping the rear drive shaft. Pulled the drive link from the parts cleaner, dried it off then sand blasted it. I also primered the fuel strainer bowl (note: the frame mounted “filter” is not a filter. It is a strainer. That’s what the book says anyway). The...
Got a couple three hours in to it today. Started sanding the frame behind the passenger side and there was just too much stuff in the way. So, battery box is removed, step is removed and the frame mounted fuel filter removed. The filter was bypassed for some reason. Once I got it removed, I...
