Which air cooled gensets are you referring to? All the Hardy gensets in the link above are liquid cooled.

Generally you are correct. Many motors will work with the lower 208 voltage though. Its the frequency of the power that is the problem. A 60 hz motor will not be compatible with 400hz power, or vice versa.

And they also never put away the cases of oil or spare parts needed, or gain the knowledge to maintain them. They think they'll be able to swing by their local store and get what they need in a ten minute trip.....mid crisis.

What are the dimensions of this specific bolt? Unless its some weird dimensions/thread I would think it should be available at most any place that carries left hand thread bolts at a fraction of the obscene prices being asked in some places.

This seems to be a penny wise/pound foolish(no offense) situation. Another 12v battery is far cheaper than a 12v stop solenoid and 12v alternator to charge the battery and hoping that other circuits designed for 24v will work correctly. The cost/benefit issues don't make sense to me.

If no luck finding something direct replacement, maybe check with these people. I don't know anything about their sales/minimum orders but might be worth a try. They make left handed bolts in common threads and sizes...
