base color complete
Took advantage of the long weekend and finished the base color. It took all 3 days this weekend to get it done. Man, there are a lot of nooks and crannies on this thing. Total paint needed = 4 gallons. Total hours to paint = 45 hours.
After the paint cures for a bit...
Nice looking truck. You're going to turn it into a working food truck aye? I'm imagining cooking food while standing in the bed. Are you planning to lower the food in a bucket to the customers below:p?
Howard,
Yes I will be reproducing the black and yellow stripes on the outrigger feet, bumpers etc. she might also get a yellow nose. I'm also planning to install an M49 gun ring [thumbzup]
update: 4 years of sanding; now it's time to paint
I can't believe it's been 4 years since I acquired this wrecker. Got the brakes completely redone, now no issues at all. All interior canvas is re-done. Crane cab canvas re-done. New data plates for crane, winches etc. I've been sanding...
Here is a link "I hope" to show how I went from 4 to 2 batteries.

Well, I finally finished reading this entire thread. I'm ready to take the plunge and go the Behr paint route. I plan to use Behr Marquee. Color is 24087 semi-gloss I'm going for Vietnam period correct. I have a couple questions for the guys painting with the H.F. gravity gun.
1)...
I looked at the gantry crane on H.F. for my trucks but it's not wide enough to clear the fenders on my 5 ton. The HMMWV is pretty wide also correct? Just make sure it'll clear the fenders.
I struggled with a few replacements but, believe it or not, I followed the picture in the TM for the way it has to be rotated and it came right out. Go figure!
I don't think you should feel bad about the purchase. It's better to go thru everything and fix stuff that could be dangerous. Once you are thru the truck, you'll have a really good understanding of everything and you'll know it'll be safe to drive.
