I'd recomend you use some type of hydraulic fluid. The air tool oil would do fine if you plan on going back into it within a 3-4 year time period (that's a WAG, you may never have to go back in). Hydraulic fluid used on tractors (front end loader) would be my recomendation. It's as close as...
I'm not sure which air packs I've got but if there's a short one out there, I'll definitely keep you in mind. And in your case, I'd have gone for the rebuild first...if it could have been rebuildable. Sorry to hear you had to go through all that work only to find you had to replace it. Guess...
Can't speak for anyone else but any time I get to buy new parts, it's a good thing. Rebuild is OK but new parts:mrgreen::mrgreen::mrgreen:. Of course buying parts requires cetain consessions for the boss. The things you some times have to do to get a new part...well this is a family friendly...
I've had to redo my brakes on all 3 of my M35s. One master cylinder was the worst job. All the others had blown wheel cylinders. Not sure I'm clear on the air pack rebuild, but it can't hurt. Is it leaking? Easy to tell, usually. Run the truck till the air pressure is as high as it will go...
Sorry to hear you had to deal with those type cases...you are not alone in that respect. To add to your info on the synthetic rope: the AF used to catch missiles. Hunh? Catch Missiles? Yup. We had a 10K specialized winch in a couple modified HH-53Cs. Someone would launch a missile with a...
:soapbox:As a crew chief on H-53's, H-3's, H-60's (rescue hoist) and H-1's (again, rescue hoist); my fellow crew chiefs and I became experts on our winches, 2 each rated at 10K pulling strength (H-53; can't remember what the rating was on our HH-3E's) . Never, ever, ever use anything but the...
Heck yeah we need parts!! my XM-211 needs a horn, the hood supports, the drivers rearview mirror. What kind of top does it have, hard or canvas? If it's a canvas job, need that too. The plate that covers the hole where the winch was is another part I need but if that one had a winch, it...
Thanks Jim for the info/reminder. It's been a long time since i tinkered with a motor I could pick up with one hand. Might even be fun for a change:-). It's going to get a thorough cleaning, inside and out. If I keep it, it'll need it to be used. If I sell it, I don't want to sell someone a...
Isaac, I like your GL win, looks like a great way to move water. If I had a source of water like your pond, I'd look at competeing for one of them. Since I don't, maybe I'll make due with what i got.
To see if I was just wasting time, I fired up the motor by pouring some gas in the carb...
When I bought the M52A2 from the fire district, it had been oufitted with a water tank. In the back compartment was a pump/motor setup with all the valves to run water in whatever method they needed. The side compartments had several hoses, condition unknown. One interesting thing is there is a...
Thank you for the education. I've only received and signed paperwork on three of my trucks but they (the seller) were the GL customer, not me. The paperwork said nothing about returning the trucks to the Gov't though. Just that I couldn't sell them to foreigners. Somehow I doubt they (the...
Plan B it is. Too many things to fix/repair/rebuild to make it into a tractor. I'll take the damaged bed off the XM-211, cut the sides off and make it into a flat bed. The difference in length between the XM-211 and the M52A2 is 3 inches. Plenty of holes in the frame rails so all I need to get...
Sounds like a cascade failure. Each piece of your starter system is going bad. Individual parts may still work marginally by themselves but when added together with the rest, failure occures. 12+ years since any maintenance was required is quite a record to be proud of. It sounds to me like...
If it's made of rubber, replace it. Fuel lines that is. There is an opening somewhere in the system leting air in. Also, try checking the tightness of the screw on filter. Might need an extra half turn.
For a running truck, it's an OK price IMHO. With the dump bed gone, you have the ability to make it into anything you want. My 5 ton used to be a tractor. Soon it will be a flat bed. If I can ever get all the parts to make it into a tractor again (lots of them out there, just cant get them...
Not sure what I'm ging to find once the tank comes off. I'm hoping it can be reconverted to a tractor. Plan B is to take the sides off a damaged 12 foot cargo bed and make it into a flat bed.
Finally got a funtioning fuel system. A little background: when I picked up the truck, it's batteries were dead. Known problem and was prepared for it. The station guys had the truck jumped and ready to be test driven. After the test drive, I shut it down to do a leak check, none found. Jump...
