The 4 batteries are for extreme cold weather starting that may require extended cranking times….the military loves redundancy. 2 Group 31 batteries are just fine, especially if you install a block heater.
As for battery life, I got 10 years out of the stock military batteries before they did...
The tech manuals for your truck are available for download, so I would encourage you to do so if you haven’t already. The A1s with the NHC-250 Cummins has a lot more low-end torque than the A2s so it will be perfect for towing for you. There is a LOT of great info on this site about these...
If you clean/rebuild your original in-tank pump, make sure to use submersible fuel hose and not regular hose… made that mistake once and it didn’t take long to swell up & cut off fuel flow as well as become a nasty mess to replace.
Nice hardtop! Welcome aboard!
You’ll probably need to service or replace the air dryer. Also check the flexible fuel lines from each tank for cracking; if they show any signs of cracking, replace them all…that will resolve any issues with air seeping in to fuel system & causing you to lose...
Again, thank you so very much for taking the time to post these!
The forward outriggers on the M246 appear to be the same as these; I will go through the part numbers to check similarities when I have time (got pulled off working on my 246 because Life Happens).
@Mullaney has some great posts...
WOW! Those are great, thanks! The rear fender pics are fantastic, I haven’t found those in any manuals I’ve come across (online nor in person). Very helpful, thank you very much for taking the time to look through those manuals & post these pics! Very much appreciated!
This is awesome! Your truck is beautiful, love what you’ve done to personalize it for your family, but the best part is seeing the interest your son has in working on it. Total Thumbs-Up sir!
After removing rear outriggers on my M246, they appear to be similar to this drawing…the side outriggers on M246 are identical to this drawing.
Mullaney thank you for posting your trials/tribulations/photos of your outriggers! I keep returning here for questions about the outriggers on my M246...
I replied via PM to your manual info.
The little filter seems to be doing fine so far; I don’t get out of first gear around my property & it seems to keep up with the demands from the crane. If not I’ll probably see if I can restore the stock frame-mounted filter.
I do believe the old gasser...
Thank you sir! Yes I have all those, and they are all missing the sections I listed above.
The only manual I don’t have is what Will mentioned he used on his museum’s ASMH: TM 9-8029-3. I do have a good copy of the original TM 9-8028, but not 9-8029-3. I also tracked down a PDF of A-W...
By chance would you have the TM # available for the 819? I haven’t been able to locate it… I’ve scrolled through so many thousands of pages that I probably overlooked it. Thank you!
I appreciate the kind words and if you’re able to source something that shows the missing info, it would be much appreciated! I’ve searched through all the Austin-Western & M62 threads I could pull up in Search; I have downloaded copies of the 9-2320-211-35, but no specific info for the items I...
