I have $75 in my drive shaft. I need it cut down I told to a small local shop and they will cut it and re-weld it for $50. I need to know a exact u joint to u joint or exact tube measurement to tell them. Is 48.5" tube length the exact measurement?
So are the yokes on a drive shaft for a 205 and 208 transfer case the same the only difference is the tube length? I will keep googling to see if I can find the lengths to keep you from having to measure. Mine appears to have come out from under a 205 as it is 53" weld to weld.
M1008 Rear Driveshaft Problems
I bought my 85 M1008 with no rear drive shaft. After reaserching and asking around on here I found that a mid 80's K30 4X4 rear drive line should have fit it. I managed to acquired one fairly cheap. When I go to install it it acts like it is about 1 inch too long...
I have a drive shaft out from under a 1985 K30 4X4. Its a one piece drive shaft. To get it to fit it looks like it needs to slide in about 1" more to get it where it will mount up. I can't get it to go in any more. Is there a trick I do not know about to installing these one piece drive shafts?
Just an update it was the rear brake pads. I cleaned everything up and adjusted them and replaced the seal packed the bearing and it spins just fine now. Thanks for the help guys.
I have been through 3 brand new sets of Those Military Guys HID headlights for my truck and haven't got a set to last over an hour. I am in the process of replacing them and have been researching electrical issues on the forum. Every once in a while when I turn on the turn signal it will just...
I have everything cleaned up and will attempt to get the seal and both bearings tomorrow so I can put it back together. I am keeping my fingers crossed this solves that issue so I can move to the next issue.
Would it cause them to lock up solid but only when going forward? They have only locked up once for a short distance in reverse. It lockes up every time in drive.
I pulled the brake drum and dug into it last night. Both wheel bearing were intact they had some slop in them but had not fell apart. I did not the brake drum and pads had a lot of old oil on them where I assume the seal has leaked. To this point I can not find anything that looks obvious like...
Just a little update I pulled the axle shaft from the locking up wheel and it is still locked up. I haven't had time to pull the wheel and inspect further. I will keep you posted on what I find. I did notice when I was backing it in my shop to work on it when you barely touch the brakes that...
I just got a 1985 M1008 back to Oklahoma from Kansas after getting the truck from the Kansas Forest Service. The truck starts up and runs. It did not have a drive line under it so I pulled it up on the trailer with it in 4X4. When I got home and unloaded it the rear drivers side wheel locked up...
So I may have found a drive shaft from a 1985 GMC 3500 4X4 truck. The guy said it is already removed from the truck and does not have the straps or bolts for the yolk. I am very new to CUCV's. Should this drive shaft fit and are the straps and bolts something I can get from a parts store or...
Just an update very hot water and Dawn dish soap got them clean as a wistle on the inside. I was amazed I was able to get all that nasty black stuff out.
I know this is a very old thread but instead of starting a new one I thought I would ask it here. I just bought a 1986 M1008 that is missing the rear driveline. I bought the truck beucase it was cheap from GSA. Is there any trucks in the civilian market that will be a direct replacement like...
I am heading to Manhattan KS tomorrow so first thing Monday morning I can pick up a M35A2 and a M1008 I bought from the Kansas Forest Service. Bad thing is with the weight and length of both combined I can not get them both back to central OK at one time. I am taking a day off work Monday to go...
I have some 365 XZL's that I removed the run flats in to mount on Long Wheel one piece rims. I have cleaned the run flat lube/black tar stuff out the best I can but as everyone knows you can not get it all out. There is still some smeared around inside the tire. I am wanting to put balancing...
