Before replacing anything else, I suggest diagnosing the vibration. Drive the vehicle at 32mph and measure the disturbance frequency with a reed tachometer, a sirometer, an electronic vibration analyzer, the accelerometer in a smartphone, or some other device. Note the engine rpm and the gear...
I doubt the polarity matters. Neither wire has continuity to the housing of the actuator, and unless there is a clamping diode across the coil, it won't care what direction the current is.
Good observation about the actuator light not coming on until the fault reset switch has been activated. I have started my 805B so many times that I don't even think about the procedure and sequence anymore. Good reminder.
According to the TM, if the speed sensor light flashes while cranking, but the actuator light doesn't come on, and the overspeed light isn't on, the speed control module needs to be replaced. I suppose you could try performing the overspeed reset procedure to see if it helps. Maybe the overspeed...
AC voltage specifications in tech manuals are fairly useless for things like variable reluctance sensors unless you know what kind of volt meter the spec was originally developed for because the output of the sensor isn't a sine wave. If you're using a "true RMS" meter, and the spec was written...
I flushed it twice. First, I used about half a gallon of simple green, then I drained it, rinsed with water, then I used some prestone cooling system flush. I was going to try some powdered laundry or dish detergent, but I already had simple green and the prestone flush, so I figured I might as...
I put the generator back together over the weekend with the new oil cooler o-rings and gaskets, changed the oil, flushed out the cooling system, added new coolant and replaced the cap. Ran it for a few hours with a 20kW load. So far, so good. Thanks everyone for the advice. I think it is fixed.
The two part numbers above are not correct. They are really close, but they don't have the large diameter seal for the very top of the filler neck that is required since the generator has a coolant overflow bottle. The correct part number is Stant 10293 if anyone else with an 805B ever needs a...
I tried a couple other caps I had laying around, and they all had too large of lugs. Knowing that it is a 10 psi cap certainly helps! I should be able to match one up pretty easily at NAPA with that info. I knew a lot of the other generators use a 7psi cap (such as my 802a), but the 805B was a...
Thanks Guy!
Where it says, "cam quantity 3," does that refer to the lugs that engage with the cam ramps on the filler neck? I swear I only saw two lugs last night, but I'll look again tonight when I get home.
Do you think that might be for the fuel cap? I just realized that is a very large...
Mine has a lot of oil in it, but it hasn't been in there for very long, I think I caught the problem shortly after it happened. I want to get all the oil out so it doesn't start to deteriorate the cooling system hoses.
155mm, you didn't happen to replace the cooling system cap on either of the...
I've heard of people using powdered dishwasher detergent or powdered laundry detergent, but I've never tried it before. I've only used the commercially available radiator flush products, and they haven't worked well at all for oil. I'm going to give the dish detergent a try. It seems like it...
Gaskets and o-rings are on order.
Has anyone found an alternative coolant fill cap for a MEP-805B? I've googled all four part numbers for the cap that I can find in the TMs, but I'm hoping to find a more readily available alternative at a local parts store like NAPA. I need to search the TMs...
Thanks Guy!
I was really hoping it was just those gaskets, but it was impossible to get the cooler off without destroying them, so it is impossible to determine if they were leaking. I'm going to stop by the JD dealership on my way home and order all the gaskets. There are also a few o-rings...
Hello,
Has anyone else had oil in their coolant, and coolant in their oil on an 805B generator. It is a JD 4045 engine. The coolant and oil both looked good a couple weeks ago when I last checked, but I ran it for a few hours this weekend and it shut down due to high coolant temp. The coolant...
Oh, I see. Yeah, you could start it remotely with a PLC, and use the existing software to remotely monitor it. The software is not hard to obtain. Send me a PM if you get a generator and need the software, and I can direct you to a place to find it.
As for adjusting the voltage down, the...
I have connected my 805B to a PC via the communication port and used the remote display software that came with the generator.

The software will not allow you to remotely start the generator, it will only give you...
